Todd Boehly urged to cough up £50m as Chelsea aim to beat Man Utd to towering central striker

Chelsea are reportedly interested in bringing Benjamin Sesko to Stamford Bridge next summer, with Graham Potter keen to bolster the Blues’ attacking threat.
The Slovenian international is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe and was targeted by rivals Manchester United last month.
Sesko has scored 10 goals in 25 matches while on loan at RB Salzburg this season, and already has plenty of Champions League experience.
The centre-forward has also been likened to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Standing at 6ft 5, he is an imposing figure but is impressively cool in front of goal.
If he can even come close to emulating City’s current number nine, he will be worth every penny.
Sesko was signed by RB Leipzig from Salzburg at the start of the 2022/23 campaign but then loaned back to the Austrian club as part of the deal, where he has since been in fine form.
A report from Spanish outlet Fichajes suggests that Potter has asked Todd Boehly to sign Sesko. Whether Leipzig will entertain an offer so soon after signing the youngster, however, remains to be seen.
Sesko is expected to join up with his parent club on a permanent basis next summer, so Chelsea has until then to convince Leipzig to sell.
Fichajes claim that a fee in the region of £5om would be required to persuade the German club, but Sesko could be an excellent long-term investment given the striker’s sky-high potential.
Could Sesko make Chelsea title contenders again?
Chelsea are certainly in need of reinforcements in the striker department after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has failed to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge.
The former Arsenal man has scored just three goals in 12 appearances for the Blues this season, and at the age of 33 is certainly not a player for the future.
Chelsea fans have been hoping that Armando Broja could provide the necessary firepower up front, but after scoring once in 12 games the 21-year-old has also been underwhelming.
Raheem Sterling has also struggled for goals after arriving for £5o million in the summer, netting just five times in 19 matches.
Chelsea clearly have a lack of proven goalscorers, a problem that has to be addressed if they want to challenge for trophies again.
While Potter will have to wait until the end of the season to get his man, he is still determined to get the deal over the line.
However, Chelsea are set to face stiff competition for Sesko’s signature.
Manchester United still keen on the Slovenian
Manchester United are also in desperate of attacking reinforcements after Cristiano Ronaldo terminated his contract in November, and the Red Devils’ interest in Sesko has certainly not gone away.
While Marcus Rashford has shown some signs of rejuvenation under Erik Ten Hag, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes have all failed to find the net consistently.
A new, long-term solution to United’s attacking issues is required should they want to challenge for titles and the Slovenian could be the answer to their prayers.
Last month, it was revealed that Ten Hag could be willing to spend up to £85m on Sesko, suggesting the Red Devils may outbid Chelsea in their pursuit.
The exact required offer for Sesko remains to be seen, but RB Leipzig have been prone to losing big players to sizeable offers in the past.
Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate both left the German club in 2021/22, and they also lost Timo Werner to Chelsea in the previous campaign.
It seems we could be set for a bidding war for the 19-year-old goal machine before he’s even played a match for RB Leipzig.
