Graham Potter sack latest: Report reveals potential timeline on Julian Nagelsmann taking over at Chelsea

Julian Nagelsmann is on Chelsea’s shortlist of candidates to replace the under-pressure Graham Potter, with a report revealing when the German could actually take over at Stamford Bridge.
Potter’s future at Stamford Bridge was one again plunged into further doubt on Saturday evening as a toothless Blues side fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The loss was Chelsea’s 10th in the league this season and leaves them a whopping 11 points off fourth-placed Tottenham in the race for Champions League football.
Potter’s men were booed off the pitch after goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn gave Villa an impressive victory.
Meanwhile, the Chelsea boss was criticised for his tactics and also his team selection after the game.
And, according to Sky Germany, while the Blues continue to support their manager behind the scenes, Nagelsmann is still on their radar after he was recently sacked by Bayern Munich.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that London rivals Tottenham, who parted company with Antonio Conte last week, is not an option for Nagelsmann at this stage. Although the 35-year-old is ‘unlikely’ to take on a new job straight away.
So with Nagelsmann seemingly out of the picture for new, the likelihood is that Potter will remain in charge until the end of the season and Chelsea were then make a decision over his long-term future.
Bayern hammered over Nagelsmann exit
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have come under fire over their handling of Nagelsmann’s somewhat surprising exit.
Former Bayern and Germany midfielder Lothar Matthaus accused Bayern’s CEO, Oliver Kahn, of failing to speak with Nagelsmann before he found out about his dismissal through the media.
Kahn is adamant that he wanted to talk to Nagelsmann face to face but was unable to while the German was on a skiing holiday. But by the time he had returned, the deed was already done and Thomas Tuchel was on the brink of taking over.
Indeed, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic supports Kahn’s version of events as he told Bild: “As soon as we had Thomas Tuchel’s commitment, I tried to reach Julian – once, twice, three times. Then I called his management. And then I called Julian again and reached him.
“Oliver Kahn was absolutely telling the truth. And for that I put my hand in the fire!
“That’s exactly how I explained it at the press conference, that’s exactly how I explained it in the double pass. I don’t see that we need to talk about it any further. These are facts that stand. That is the truth!”
However, the agency which represents Nagelsmann actually told Sky Germany: “There was no contact and no attempt to contact Bayern. Julian Nagelsmann’s management called Hasan Salihamidzic even after the various rumours in the media.”
As for Chelsea, the Blues are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Liverpool.
