Huge new twist in Chelsea exodus as expensive Boehly signing ‘offered’ to Bayern in Tuchel reunion

There has been a major development in the Chelsea push to get rid of a host of players as one journalist claims Wesley Fofana has been offered to Bayern.

Fofana joined Chelsea from Leicester City in a huge £75million move in August 2022. He signed during the first transfer window after a Todd Boehly-led consortium purchased Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.

The centre-back had an injury-hit debut season at Stamford Bridge as he was out of action between October and February with a knee problem. This limited him to 22 appearances, with 17 of those coming in the Premier League.

Fofana only played a handful of games under manager Thomas Tuchel before the German was axed in September. But there has now been a surprising claim that he might work with Tuchel again at Bayern.

As per Sport1 journalist Kerry Hau, Fofana was ‘recently offered’ to Bayern in what would have been an ‘exciting’ transfer. Kau added that Tuchel ‘knows Fofana well’ and ‘appreciates’ his ability.

However, the Bundesliga champions will not be able to sign the Frenchman this summer as he is ‘too expensive’. There is no mention of how much Fofana might cost, although Chelsea will likely want to receive most of the £75m they originally spent on him.

The claim comes after Bayern were beaten to Spanish defender Pau Torres by Aston Villa. Bayern are still on the verge of signing centre-half Kim Min-jae from Napoli, but it seems they are on the hunt for another defensive capture as well.

In a busy summer for Tuchel and his team, Bild reporter Christian Falk has explained how Harry Kane and Kyle Walker could also be signed, while Liverpool target Benjamin Pavard will almost certainly leave.

Wesley Fofana stays, but other Chelsea players depart

Chelsea have let a host of players go this summer as they aim to trim the squad down and bring in some money for Mauricio Pochettino to spend (without breaking Financial Fair Play regulations). N’Golo Kante left for Al Ittihad, with Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly following him to Saudi Arabia. Hakim Ziyech is expected to go there too, although complications have emerged surrounding his move.

Chelsea will allow Ruben Loftus-Cheek to join Milan, while they are also in discussions with the Italian outfit over Christian Pulisic’s move.

As Fofana is one of Chelsea’s most highly rated young players, they could have picked up good money for him this summer.

However, it would be a surprise if the Blues let him go as he has only recently arrived at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea chiefs will likely want to monitor him for a full, injury-free campaign before making a final decision on his future.

Plus, it is likely Pochettino will manage to get the best out of the 22-year-old. After all, the former Tottenham boss is known for his ability to improve young players.
