Chelsea causing ‘uneasiness’ as Sevilla fear Jules Kounde inaction to derail summer plans

Jules Kounde in a duel for Sevilla

Sevilla are growing anxious at a lack of progress in the potential sale of Jules Kounde to Chelsea, according to reports in Spain.

Kounde was a top target for Chelsea last summer, but they could not find an agreement with Sevilla. Now, finding a new defender of his ability is even more important for Chelsea after the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

With that in mind, Kounde remains on their radar. However, reports have cast doubt on whether he is their top target any more.

Chelsea have been exploring a number of alternative transfer targets, such as Nathan Ake or Matthijs de Ligt. Although Kounde is still in contention, things are not progressing as smoothly as Sevilla may have expected.

There have been recent claims of contact between the two clubs. Yet Marca have relayed that Sevilla are fearful Chelsea will not meet their valuation of Kounde again – or make an offer at all.

While last season keeping Kounde was a good thing for the La Liga outfit, this year they are basing their other activity on what they could do by selling him. Hence, their additional plans are on the shelves until they can cash in on their prize asset.

The Kounde stalemate is said to be causing “uneasiness”, “uncertainty” and “restlessness” at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Sevilla are aware that Kounde has his heart set on a summer exit. He may have to adjust his expectations regarding the next deal he signs, but is unlikely to want to continue where he is.

Barcelona have been linked, but might not be able to afford a €65m (£55.7m) asking price. Hence, Sevilla risk missing out on the windfall they are hopeful of.

They also wanted a deal to be done early in the window. But there does not seem to have been enough progress from Chelsea or anyone else yet for that to be the case.

Jules Kounde could be worth the wait for Chelsea, if not Sevilla

Links between Kounde and Chelsea have been going on for more than a year now. Despite this, as Sevilla are all too aware, nothing has yet come to fruition for a transfer.

If Chelsea are able to land the Frenchman eventually, he would be a good signing. He has shown plenty of potential and consistency at a good level with Sevilla.

Kounde is intelligent enough to succeed in Thomas Tuchel’s back three. He would therefore be worth the wait if Chelsea can eventually get his signing over the line.

But as stated, that may not suit Sevilla. Instead, the La Liga side will be hoping for quicker progress on his potential departure.
