Jules Kounde transfer news: Chelsea ‘contact agent’ as revived interest worries Barcelona

Chelsea have reportedly reignited their interest in Sevilla defender Jules Kounde as Barcelona look to move quickly for the transfer.

Kounde has been the subject of numerous transfer rumours this summer. It had been reported that Chelsea had lost interest in the 23-year-old, and that Barcelona looked to be the likely next destination. However, a recent report suggests that Chelsea are looking to hijack a move to the Catalan giants last minute.

As reported by Caught Offside, Chelsea have revived their interest in Kounde. The report also suggests that the next few days are key in determining where Kounde ends up.

It seems unlikely that the French international will remain at Sevilla for another season. He enjoyed a successful campaign last season, making 32 league appearances at the heart of the Sevilla defence.

His form inside La Liga attracted the interest of Barcelona. The club have already been extremely active this window, with a number of big-name signings.

Franck Kessie and Raphinha have already been signed, with Robert Lewandowski set to be announced very soon. They have also secured Andreas Christensen from Chelsea to bolster the defence.

But it seems they are not done yet. Barcelona are still reportedly very interest in landing Kounde.

And the news that Chelsea are once again interested has only spurred the Spanish club on. Barcelona are now expected to move quickly so they don’t miss out to the Blues.

But Thomas Tuchel’s side are from from out of the race. The report adds that Chelsea have been back in contact with his agent, suggesting they are also serious about a transfer.

It now seems that the next few days of business will have a great impact on the future of Kounde.

Interest in Jules Kounde exciting for Chelsea fans

It had seemed like Chelsea were going to miss out on a move for Kounde.

In recent weeks, it looked like the club were focusing their interest on former star Nathan Ake instead.

However, the recent news that Chelsea have withdrawn from the Ake race could have reignited the Kounde interest.

And this is good news for Chelsea fans. The fact remains that the club are desperate for new recruits in the defender department.

Going for Kounde proves that Chelsea are serious about a big-name signing joining their back line.

Kounde would be a excellent recruit, however, it seems that Chelsea still face stiff competition for his signing from Barcelona.

Nevertheless, the fact they are approaching agents of players like Kounde shows Chelsea could still make some promising signings this summer.
