Bayern Munich monitoring Chelsea star in £50m deal as Todd Boehly considers summer fire sale

Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping tabs on Chelsea star Kai Havertz ahead of a potential move for the German star in the summer.

Since his move to Stamford Bridge in 2020, Havertz has been a real opinion splitter. He scored the winning goal in the 2020-21 Champions League final and yet it doesn’t feel like he has fulfilled his potential.

Across 118 appearances for Chelsea, Havertz has scored 29 goals. He has been used in a variety of roles including on the wing and through the middle as a number nine or ten.

Graham Potter has often relied upon Havertz as he has started in 16 Premier League matches this season. He has scored five league goals which makes him Chelsea’s top scorer along with Raheem Sterling this season.

According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are watching Havertz’s situation at Chelsea very closely and are considering making a move for him in the summer.

It is claimed that the German side would be prepared to pay between £35-£52million for the forward. Chelsea signed Havertz in 2020 in a deal worth £72million.

Bayern Munich are in need of another forward after the departure of Robert Lewandowski in the summer. They have also been linked with a move for Tottenham forward Harry Kane.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has led the line for Bayern so far this season and has scored 11 goals across all competitions. As they seek out their next forward, a move for Havertz could make sense.

In the Bundesliga, the German forward scored 36 goals in 118 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen. His best goalscoring season came during 2018–19 when he scored 17 league goals.

Several stars could leave in the summer

Along with Havertz, several other Chelsea stars now face an uncertain future at the club. Chelsea have spent big since Todd Boehly’s arrival and they are likely to sell some big names in the summer.

Despite recently signing, the likes of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly already face uncertain futures at the club.

Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva are also coming towards the end of their contracts with the club and could pursue a new move in the summer.

Potter himself recently admitted that Chelsea cannot continue to sign players at their current rate. He told reporters: “We’ve got to be, not necessarily careful, but you’ve got to understand we’ve got ten or eleven players unavailable.

“You can’t just sign players to replace those because then you’d have a squad of 30 and that is a problem. So you have to do the right thing and look at what the right solutions are.

“If you’re in a position where in a small period too many people are making recruitment decisions, it’s not a recipe for short- or long-term success. So we have to stabilise things, make good decisions, and align our resources.”

Chelsea currently sit 10th in the Premier League and have been well off the pace so far. The weekend presents an interesting opportunity for them as they face a Liverpool side who have also struggled to find form recently.
