Kylian Mbappe bombshell as Chelsea start ‘studying’ blockbuster bid to rival €200m Saudi offer

Chelsea target Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has been linked with Chelsea

Chelsea have become contenders for the signature of Kylian Mbappe, according to a sensational update from France about the Paris Saint-Germain attacker.

Mbappe’s future has suddenly become a major topic after PSG excluded him from their pre-season tour to Asia. It is their way of showing the striker they are willing to take serious steps if he doesn’t commit to them.

PSG only have Mbappe under contract until the end of the season. Some figures within the club believe he already has an agreement to leave them for Real Madrid at the end of it.

Eager to avoid losing one of the best players in the world for free, PSG have offered Mbappe an astonishing new contract. However, he has to accept it by the end of the month, or they will put him up for sale.

In that case, Real Madrid would not be the only potential buyers. Mbappe has already been linked with a variety of clubs, including some in the Premier League.

Now, according to French reporter Fabrice Hawkins, Chelsea have established their own interest in the 24-year-old.

In a tweet on Saturday morning, Hawkins has shared that Chelsea “are studying the feasibility of the transfer” but are yet to make an offer to PSG.

Chelsea are believed to be facing competition from “at least one other English club” as well as Al Hilal.

Huge Saudi plans for Mbappe

The Saudi Professional League side would be willing to pay €200m (£173m) to PSG in order to sign Mbappe. In turn, they would offer the player a contract worth €400m (£346m) over two years.

Al Hilal have already signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Chelsea this summer, as well as Ruben Neves from Wolves and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio.

It appears they mean business on the Mbappe front, although the 2018 World Cup winner will have to take plenty of factors into consideration.

Competing with Al Hilal’s offer financially would require a monumental effort from Chelsea. That said, they have spent heavily in both transfer windows of the Todd Boehly era so far.

They would likely need to break their transfer record to prise Mbappe away from PSG, though, even taking into account the lack of time remaining on his contract.

One downside of the move for Mbappe would be that Chelsea have no UEFA Champions League football on offer next season after finishing in the bottom half of the 2022-23 Premier League table.

In contrast, Al Hilal will be in the AFC Champions League. That said, Mbappe turning his back on European football altogether would be one of the most shocking moves yet since the Saudi Professional League started picking up elite names.

Perhaps only Cristiano Ronaldo has a higher profile than Mbappe, but he has gone to Saudi Arabia towards the end of his career. Indeed, Mbappe would be leaving European football behind ahead of the prime of his career, which has already hit major heights.

From his perspective, Mbappe may prefer to hold out for Real Madrid, but it is evident by now he will have other ideas to consider.

Goals were a major issue for Chelsea last season and adding someone like Mbappe would go a long way to resolving their issues. For now, though, it seems to be a dream.
