Major Chelsea target drops coy response on whether he will end up at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol has dropped a coy response on whether he will end up at the Blues, stating his “agent is taking care” of negotiations.
Gvardiol has been a target of Chelsea’s for a while now. It has been reported that the Blues tried to sign him at the back end of the summer transfer window.
That was after they had already signed three defenders in Marc Cucurella, Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly.
It would seem they think highly of Gvardiol, if they were willing to spend on him despite having paid around £150million for those three defenders.
However, nothing came of their apparent bid for the RB Leipzig defender. As such, he has continued plying his trade in the Bundesliga.
The centre-back has missed just four games games between the league and Champions League this term.
It is for his national team, Croatia, that he his impact has been seen most, though.
Gvardiol has not missed a minute of action for his country at the World Cup so far. What’s more, Croatia have kept clean sheets against Morocco and Belgium, and conceded just one goal.
Gvardiol coy on future
Gvardiol’s role in keeping Belgium at bay during the 0-0 draw in Croatia’s final group game has got people drooling. Indeed, Jermaine Jenas referred to the defender as “different class”.
Furthermore, Gvardiol has been called the “best central defender” in the world by his coach. While it might be slightly too soon to make that statement, the defender is clearly a great asset.
As such, interest from the likes of Chelsea makes a lot of sense.
A move could well be on the cards soon, too. Indeed, Gvardiol is seemingly unsure where he is going to end up, despite being content with his current situation.
“About me and Chelsea? I don’t know. You know what happened in the last few months. To be honest, I have no idea,” he told The Athletic.
“My agent is taking care of this and we will see. Right now, I’m happy in Leipzig. I don’t know, we will see – you never know. You know the stories and these things, but all I can say is that I’m happy in Leipzig and right now I’m going to stay there and perform for them.”
Reports of late have suggested he will meet with Chelsea after the World Cup.
As such, that meeting could give him a decision to make over whether he wants to make the move to Stamford Bridge. He would surely slot straight into the defence if he was to move.
Indeed, Gvardiol might well know more regarding his future fairly soon.
