Major boost for Chelsea, Tottenham with Brighton star set to be axed by De Zerbi this summer

Spain and Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez

Brighton and Hove Albion could be ‘open to offers’ for highly-rated goalkeeper Robert Sanchez this summer, according to reports.

The 25-year-old has recently lost his starting spot to Jason Steele, although Roberto De Zerbi has already confirmed he will start the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.

However, Sanchez is still considered to be one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League, with no shortage of interest in his signature.

Now, according to talkSPORT, there is a chance that Tottenham and Chelsea could come in for the Spain international this summer.

Sanchez is thought to be frustrated at Brighton after being left out in favour of Steele, so will be looking for a way out of the south coast club.

However, the report adds that Brighton will only sell Sanchez if they receive a ‘significant fee,’ so the London rivals will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, it is believed that the goalkeeper’s price tag is in the region of £30m, with Spurs and Chelsea on ‘high alert’ and ready for a summer approach.

Chelsea and Spurs set to battle for Sanchez

Chelsea’s current main choice keeper is Kepa Arrizabalaga, who, overall, has been fairly solid this season.

However, with second-choice stopper Edouard Mendy reportedly expected to leave the Blues this summer, Sanchez could be brought in to replace him.

Sanchez wouldn’t be the first Brighton start to join Chelsea, either, with recently sacked manager Graham Potter bringing in Marc Cucurella at the start of the season.

On the other hand, Tottenham are also in need of a new goalkeeper, with club captain Hugo Lloris set to leave this summer after 11 years at the club.

Fraser Forster has filled in effectively for the Frenchman at times this term, but Spurs will no doubt be looking to bring in a more long-term successor than the 35-year-old.

As mentioned, Sanchez has shown during his time at Brighton that he can perform consistently, keeping 28 clean sheets in 88 appearances overall for his team.

With that in mind, we could be set for a bidding war between the London rivals for Sanchez this summer.

Spurs have certainly had a better season than Chelsea and still have an outside chance of Champions League football, so they could potentially appeal more to the Brighton man.

However, Chelsea have spent heavily this term and with a new manager in charge could turn into a real force next season, so it will be interesting to see which of the duo Sanchez chooses, if they do indeed come in for the keeper this summer.
