Recent reports have claimed that Christian Pulisic now wants to stay at Chelsea, despite several clubs lining up for his signature.

It’s fair to say that Pulisic hasn’t quite lived up to his potential in a Chelsea shirt. The American winger made his move to Stamford Bridge in January 2019 for a fee of £58m.

A series of injuries have hampered his development and chances in the starting 11. His most prolific season for Chelsea came in his debut year in 2019/20 under Frank Lampard.

The 24-year-old scored nine Premier League goals and produced four assists in 19 starts and six substitute appearances.

Since his debut season under Lampard, his game time has been reduced quite dramatically.

Last season for example he only made 13 league starts and struggled to find a consistent starting spot.

It has been suggested that Chelsea are willing to cut their losses with Pulisic and sell him in the January transfer window.

However, new reports have claimed that Pulisic himself wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place under Graham Potter.

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has taken to Twitter to explain the wingers current situation.

He has reported that: ‘Rumors about Dortmund, United & Newcastle not hot. Been told that he wants to stay at [Chelsea] in winter.

‘He really tends to this plan. But: Talks could take place if he would receive a great and interesting offer after the World Cup. But it’s unlikely.’

Pulisic will be keen to sort out his future after his World Cup campaign with the USA.

The 24-year-old has had a good tournament so far with an assist to his name against Wales. Should the USA beat Iran tonight, they will progress through to the Round of 16.

Man Utd are interested

Despite his reluctance to leave Chelsea at this time, plenty of clubs are interested in a deal for Pulisic in January.

Manchester United have been one of the clubs closely monitoring his situation in recent weeks.

“I’ve been told Manchester United will consider a loan move for Christian Pulisic when the window opens next month,” Mark Ogden told ESPN.

“His future at Chelsea is uncertain – he’s played the full 90 minutes just once this season in the EFL Cup against Man City.

“Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle have been made aware by those that represent Pulisic that he is available and keen to move in January.

“I don’t believe Man Utd will be prepared to spend money in January to sign Pulisic. That applies to most clubs in the EPL right now – January isn’t a market where they tend to do big business.

“But a loan move is certainly a possibility because they’ve let Cristiano Ronaldo go. Erik ten Hag does need additional forwards to choose from.”

While United are considering a loan move, it seems Chelsea are only interested in a January sale.

If Pulisic continues to shine in Qatar, perhaps Potter will look to keep him in his plans for the season.
