Ball in Todd Boehly’s court as Juventus wait for considerable Matthijs de Ligt offer with Chelsea stars in alignment

Juventus are waiting for a substantial offer from Chelsea for Matthijs de Ligt as Thomas Tuchel scrambles to patch up his Blues defence.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have both left on free transfers this summer and Tuchel needs replacements. Nathan Ake, Jules Kounde, Kalidou Koulibaly, Presnel Kimpembe and De Ligt have all been linked moves to Stamford Bridge. And a deal for Juventus star De Ligt would certainly get the attention of their Premier League rivals.

The asking price appears to be the sticking point for Tuchel and new owner Todd Boehly. The Holland star has a €120m release clause and Juve are hoping to get full value on that.

A slight €1om discount has mooted by Calciomercato via FootballItalia. But Juve are intent on a cash deal and a player exchange offer is not what the Turin side are looking for.

Federico Cherubini is said to be a big fan of Timo Werner, but the Juventus owners would prefer to straight forward sale.

The report claims Chelsea seem “inclined to pay around €65- €70m” for De Ligt. But Juve will not bow to that sort of money and they are now said to be awaiting a considerable offer for the player.

The Telegraph recently claimedthe 22-year-old Dutchman was keen to move to the capital. And the the PA news agency
have now revealed how Thomas Tuchel’s influence is pushing De Ligt to the Premier League.

De Ligt chase a battle of wills

The Italian outlet also report that Manchester City are interested in the defender. They are apparently willing to offer Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ilkay Gundogan in exchange. But Juve will unlikely be swayed by that.

The champions also have Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones to select from at the heart of their defence.

Chelsea are believed to be in the box seat, but Juventus will demand top dollar for the classy De Ligt.

The chase looks likely to go well into the summer. Juve are well aware of Chelsea’s need for a defender that Tuchel can build around. It will be a test of nerve for Chelsea and Boehly, who is acting as sporting director after the exit of Marina Granovskaia.

Boehly is understood to have negotiated the loan return of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan. But his rookie status in transfer dealings will be tested to the max by Juve chief Cherubini, who is keen to make a name for himself after replacing Fabio Paratici.
