Reports claim Chelsea are set to target Inter defender Milan Skriniar and are prepared to offer Ruben Loftus-Cheek as part of the deal.
The Blues have kept their powder dry this summer but have been tipped to strengthen during the transfer window. With the club’s sale to Todd Boehly now complete, Thomas Tuchel is expected to be handed significant funds. The German’s task is to try and close the gap on the top two.
And it seems as though he is looking to build from the back, with the Slovakia international on the radar, according to The Mail.
The west Londoners have seen Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen depart to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. And so Tuchel is on the lookout for a replacement centre-back and Skriniar fits the bill.
The 27-year-old has been with Inter for five years, making 215 appearances in all competitions. He has been linked with a San Siro exit for a number of months.
Tottenham were heavily linked before the player made it clear that he wanted to remain with the Serie A giants. That does not seem to have deterred Chelsea who are keen to do a swap deal with the Italians.
The former Sampdoria ace is valued around the £60m mark. But the Stamford Bridge outfit want to offset the cost of the deal by offering Loftus-Cheek to the Nerazzurri.
It was recently suggested that the England international is valued at £17m. That would mean the capital outfit still needing to fork out a considerable sum to get Skriniar on board.
Skriniar has big-name suitors
It is unclear whether Spurs will re-enter the picture but Manchester Unietd are thought to be interested. And Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the powerful centre-half.
Inter’s financial situation suggests that they would be open to significant offers for the man with 54 Slovakia caps. And that might put the likes of PSG ahead of Chelsea in the race for Skriniar’s signature.
It is also not clear if Inter actually hold an interest in taking Loftus-Cheek. The 26-year-old has hardly set the world alight at the Bridge and spent 2020-2021 on loan with Fulham.
He made just 13 top-flight starts last season. And a move abroad might be the tonic he needs to revitalise his career.
There is reportedly interest from Lazio but Chelsea could favour him moving to Inter.
