N’Golo Kante received lucrative ‘proposal’ in January but stayed loyal to Chelsea – report

N’Golo Kante received a transfer ‘proposal’ in January but showed his loyalty to Chelsea by pushing it back, according to a report.
The all-action midfielder has been one of Chelsea’s best performers in recent years. Last season, he made 48 appearances as the Blues won the Champions League.
Kante continues to be one of Thomas Tuchel’s most important players this term. He was named captain as Chelsea beat Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup.
The Frenchman then played in both the semi-final and final during Chelsea’s Club World Cup triumph – the first in the club’s history.
Kante faces competition from the likes of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Saul Niguez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Despite this, he has already featured 31 times so far this campaign.
Losing him would be a big blow for Chelsea, while it would also see a Champions League rival greatly strengthened.
BBC Sport provide an update on the star’s situation, while citing French newspaper Le Parisien. They claim Kante was the subject of a ‘proposal’ from Paris Saint-Germain in the winter window.
N’Golo Kante comfortable in England
Agreeing to the move would have seen the World Cup winner link up with PSG in the summer. However, he had no plans to leave Chelsea.
PSG made contact with the player and his agent. They were hoping the ability to go back to his place of birth would be enticing for Kante, but he is apparently happy in England.
Le Parisien delve deeper into the issue. They state this was arguably PSG’s last chance to land the 31-year-old while he is at the peak of his powers.
Kante’s contract with the Blues runs until 2023, meaning the French giants will have to wait at least another season to bring him in.
PSG’s terms would have been lucrative, to say the least. Kante earns £290,000 per week, according to Spotrac. But PSG’s wealth would have seen him take home at least £300,000 to £350,000 every seven days.
The Paris-based club pay Lionel Messi £1m a week, as per Salary Sport. Neymar is on £602k, while Kylian Mbappe is on £413k.
Instead, Kante will remain in the Premier League and help Chelsea in their season run-in. Tuchel’s men face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final and take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semis.
