Ousmane Dembele to Chelsea takes giant step forward as Blues reach crucial agreement

Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele

The transfer saga surrounding Ousmane Dembele could finally end in the coming weeks amid claims Chelsea have reached an agreement for his signing.

The winger has been the subject of plenty of rumours since entering the final six months of his Barcelona contract. At one point it seemed as if he would renew his terms there, but that is no longer the case.

Dembele is on course to leave the Nou Camp as a free agent on July 1, the day after his contract expires.

He represents an attractive capture for clubs across Europe. Dembele has bags of talent and is still only 25, which means he hasn’t reached his prime yet.

Of course, the main issue for any interested clubs will be his injury record. Dembele has never managed to stay fit at Barca for a prolonged period of time, which is why his spell there is seen as a failure.

Nevertheless, it would be a good signing for a Premier League club to complete. If they can keep the Frenchman fit, then he could shine.

Dembele has previously been in Manchester United and Liverpool’s sights. But they are pursuing other targets, leaving Chelsea as the last suitor left.

And there is now a big indication Dembele will end up at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Big update on next Ousmane Dembele move

According to Deadline Day Live on Twitter, who cite French outlet Le10Sport, Chelsea have sent a contract offer to Dembele and his entourage.

And the star has accepted the terms, meaning Chelsea have reached an agreement over personal terms with the wide man.

Deadline Day Live claim it is ‘a matter of time’ before Dembele ends up in west London, although it’s unclear how much inside knowledge they have.

If the rumour is true, then it is a big turn of events. There were questions about Chelsea’s ambitions following their takeover, but meeting Dembele’s huge wage demands would be a sign of intent.

Thomas Tuchel is losing Andreas Christensen to Barca on a free transfer, so bringing in Dembele from the Spanish giants could be a form of transfer revenge too.

Meanwhile, new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has come up with a plan to help the club catch up with Manchester City and Liverpool.
