Chelsea quick to line up Rudiger replacement after eye-watering details of Real Madrid move emerge

Antonio Rudiger in a Chelsea warm-up

The finer details of Real Madrid’s move for Antonio Rudiger have surfaced in Spain, though Chelsea have wasted little time in lining up his replacement, per reports.

Thomas Tuchel recently confirmed his star centre-half would leave Chelsea when the season ends. Rudiger has been nothing short of sensational during Tuchel’s time at Stamford Bridge. However, the club’s off-field turmoil led to sanctions that scuppered Chelsea’s chances of securing a late contract extension.

As such, the 29-year-old will walk away for free this summer and Real Madrid have long been touted as his likeliest destination.

Now, according to Spanish outlet Marca, Real Madrid believe they’ve got their man.

The newspaper’s claims are summarised by Sport Witness who shed light on the eye-watering finances of the reported deal.

Firstly, it’s stated Rudiger will sign a four-year contract running until 2026.

His weekly salary will reportedly be €9m per year after tax. That roughly equates to around £145-000-a-week post-tax. A further €2m (£1.7m) will reportedly make its way to Rudiger as a bonus payment for choosing Real Madrid.

Agent’s fees are an increasing influence in modern deals and the report adds €15m will be paid in ‘commission payments’.

Sport Witness conclude that in total, the deal will set Real back at least €70m when all is said and done.

Chelsea size up Rudiger replacement

With speculation still swirling Andreas Christensen could join Barcelona, Chelsea will be in desperate need of reinforcements at the back.

The Telegraph recently reported Tuchel will demand Chelsea’s new owners sign two new defenders this summer. The biggest issue will be finding a centre-back capable of taking Rudiger’s position on the left side of a three.

Left-sided centre-backs are in desperately short supply at present. Though the Telegraph did indicate Villarreal’s Pau Torres could be an option.

The Spaniard, 25, is on Erik ten Hag’s radar at Manchester United. However, a report from Spain has claimed Chelsea are now firmly in the mix.

La Razon state Villarreal won’t stand in Torres’ way if he is dead set on taking the next step in his career.

The Yellow Submarine are currently in the Champions League semi-finals having already knocked out Bayern Munich and Juventus.

However, the likes of Chelsea or Man Utd would be able to offer far greater wages than the Spaniards and their chances of retaining him are rated as slim.

Tottenham and Man City are also keeping a close eye on his situation. However, with Rudiger’s exit ramping up, it is Chelsea who arguably have the greatest desire and want to forge a Pau Torres deal – once their sanctions are lifted.
