Chelsea discover Presnel Kimpembe transfer stance after Thomas Tuchel call, as Blues turn down PSG team-mate

PSG centre-half Presnel Kimpembe

Chelsea have found out whether Thomas Tuchel’s call to Presnel Kimpembe will be enough to convince him to join, while the Blues have reportedly rejected the chance to sign one of Kimpembe’s Paris Saint-Germain team-mates.

Chelsea are hunting all across Europe to bolster their options in central defence. They don’t have long as the Premier League season begins on Saturday August 6.

The Blues have brought in Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. The Senegal international is likely to replace Antonio Rudiger in Tuchel’s back three.

Chelsea were also in talks with Sevilla over the signing of Frenchman Jules Kounde. He would have joined as Andreas Christensen’s successor.

However, Barcelona are set to win the race for Kounde, leaving Chelsea frustrated. This is exactly what happened with Brazilian winger Raphinha, too.

There are other options for Chelsea. Leicester City star Wesley Fofana is one of them.

However, he won’t come cheap and Wednesday’s Transfer Gossip reveals just how much Chelsea would have to pay to get the 21-year-old.

Cheaper alternatives to Fofana are PSG pair Kimpembe and Kehrer. And reports in France and Germany have given the latest on these rumours.

Tuchel contacts PSG player Presnel Kimpembe

According to Le10Sport, Tuchel had a call with Kimpembe about the defender moving to Stamford Bridge. They know each other well from Tuchel’s spell as PSG boss.

Chelsea officials were hoping this relationship would work wonders in the transfer market. However, it has been unsuccessful as Kimpembe wants to remain in the French capital.

The player likes the way the PSG project is going. They are heading into a new, exciting era with Christophe Galtier as manager and Luis Campos as sporting director.

Plus, Kimpembe wants to impress next season to earn a new contract at the Parc des Princes. His current deal runs out in June 2024.

As per Bild journalist Christian Falk, Chelsea were also given the chance to bring in Kehrer from PSG.

However, they had no interest in signing him and were hoping to reach an agreement for Kimpembe instead.

But with the latter no longer available, Chelsea will have to do more searching before adding another centre-half to their ranks.

This scenario is threatening to get embarrassing for Chelsea. They were close to capturing Kounde, a long-term target of theirs, only for Barca to race in and beat them to the punch.

Rudiger and Christensen’s exits are massive and if replacements don’t come in then it’s hard to see how Chelsea will catch Liverpool or Manchester City any time soon.

Meanwhile, Falk claims Chelsea would like to sign a striker from one of their biggest rivals.
