Chelsea will reportedly set their sights on a move for another defender in the form of Presnel Kimpembe once they have completed a move for Kalidou Koulibaly.
Todd Boehly has upped the ante in Chelsea’s squad rebuilding after sealing a deal for Raheem Sterling. The American, who is acting as Chelsea’s sporting director, is also closing in on a deal for Koulibaly.
Sterling has joined up with the squad in Los Angeles and Napoli defender Koulibaly will be heading stateside soon.
Sky in Italy report that a deal for the Senegal international should be completed on Thursday for a fee of around £32m. A medical has been lined up for the 31-year-old, who is expected to sign a four-year contract worth around £160,000 per week.
But Chelsea’s defensive reinforcements will not end there. With Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger to replace, Tuchel is looking for another defender to partner Koulibaly.
Former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake is also close to arriving from Man City. Terms have been agreed with the Dutch star ahead of proposed £45m switch.
But Tuchel is also chasing Paris Saint-Germain defender Kimpembe, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.
Former PSG coach Tuchel knows all about the France defender from his time in the French capital. And The Telegraph, also report Tuchel is keen on signing the 26-year-old.
Kounde interest dropped?
Last month Footmercato reported that PSG, who have just switched coaches to Christophe Galtier, had set an asking price of €50m on Kimpembe.
Just where that leaves Chelsea’s proposed move for Jules Kounde remains unclear.
The Sevilla man has been a target for Chelsea in the last three transfer windows, but a move for Kimpembe would end any interest in his France team-mate.
The 23-year-old was desperate to join Chelsea last summer but the Blues could not agree a fee. And now Barcelona have moved in on Kounde.
But Barcelona are trying to drive down the asking price by offering Memphis Depay or Sergino Dest as part of the deal.
