Ruthless Pochettino greenlights Man Utd transfer hijack, with new Chelsea boss ‘unconvinced’ by two Blues stars

Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag

Mauricio Pochettino has made signing a brand new goalkeeper his top priority once confirmed as the new Chelsea manager, and a top source has claimed a Man Utd target is the player he’ll turn to.

The Argentine, 51, will be announced as the new Chelsea manager later this week. That’s according to the Mirror who also shed light on how he’ll attack the summer transfer window.

Pochettino has already run the rule over the squad he’ll inherit and it’s claimed he’s been left ‘unconvinced’ by goalkeeping duo Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

Mendy has fallen out of favour this season, while Kepa has been one of very few bright sparks in a season of doom and gloom at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Spaniard’s stellar campaign has not done enough to excite Pochettino, with the Mirror adding Pochettino is open to letting one of the pair leave.

Whichever of Mendy and Kepa is retained are then likely to be installed as the No 2 with Pochettino angling for a new No 1. In fact, the report adds signing a top class keeper is Pochettino’s ‘transfer priority’.

Potential next Chelsea GK in action tonight

On the subject of who he’ll turn to, trusted Sky Italia journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, claims to have the answer.

Di Marzio was recently asked which stars English sides will be casting their eye over in Inter Milan’s Champions League clash with AC Milan on Wednesday night.

“Two players, Onana, the Inter goalkeeper,” said Di Marzio. “Chelsea and Man Utd too like Onana.

“I don’t know if they’ll make an offer in the next weeks, it’s [still] early. But Inter knows Onana is in the lists of Chelsea and Manchester United.

“Inter will ask for €50m (approx. £44m) minimum for him. And congratulations to Inter because they got him out of contract from Ajax [as a free agent].”

The other player Di Marzio stressed will be closely observed on Wednesday night is Nicolo Barella, also of Inter Milan.

Liverpool have stepped up their scouting efforts of the Italy ace are were labelled among the ‘most interested’ clubs chasing his signature.

Onana has been in sparkling form for Inter since displacing Samir Handanovic between the sticks.

The Cameroon international, 27. has kept the most clean sheets in the UCL this season with six. He also leads the statistical category of goals prevented in that competition, with his mark of 5.7 placing him ahead of Thibaut Courtois (5.5).

Onana has been heavily linked with Man Utd who are having doubts as to whether David de Gea should continue as their first choice.

De Gea is poised to sign a new contract on greatly reduced terms. However, some within the halls of Old Trafford believe he should then be relegated to the bench and ousted as the starter by a new face.

However, if Man Utd have any intention of acting on their interest in Onana, they may find he’s already on his way to Stamford Bridge.
