Thomas Tuchel advised to bin off Nathan Ake chase and instead priortise blockbuster signing for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been told he can do much better than Nathan Ake with the ideal replacement named as replacement for Antonio Rudiger.

The departure of the Germany defender leaves Tuchel and new owner Todd Boehly with a huge hole to fill. The former Roma man had positioned himself as one of the world’s best defenders at Chelsea. As such, his exit to Real Madrid on a free transfer means a top-class replacement will be required.

Indeed, a number of names are being linked with Chelsea this summer. That list is seemingly headed by Jules Kounde, with the Blues in a hurry to finalise his signing before a July price hike.

However, the Blues are seeking another central defensive signing too. Chelsea have also lost Andreas Christensen to Barcelona, while doubts continue to linger over Cesar Azpilicueta.

As such, links to Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly have re-emerged in recent days. They also reportedly looking towards Manchester City defender Nathan Ake, who might be on the move this summer.

Any deal for Ake is likely to cost in excess of £45m. Tuchel, though, is reportly a big admirer of the Netherlands international.

However, pundit Alan Hutton reckons Chelsea can do better than Ake, who is only fourth choice at Man City.

Instead, he wants them to go all out for Matthijs de Ligt, amid claims Juventus’ stance on his sale is softening.

Matthijs De Ligt a better option than Nathan Ake

He reckons De Ligt has both the experience and quality Chelsea need right now. And, speaking to Football Insider, he reckons De Ligt would be one of only a few defenders capable of stepping into Rudiger’s shoes.

“De Ligt has played at such a high level. He’s done a lot for somebody that’s only 22,” Hutton said.

“Rudiger was such a key part of Chelsea’s back line and what they did that they need to try and get a like for like player.

“I think you have to bring somebody like that in, to replace Rudiger and play at that high level week in week out, and he [De Ligt] could possibly do that.

“Ake is a really good player and he knows this level, but he’s been a bit unlucky at Man City. So I think de Ligt would be the one to replace Rudiger. He’s had the big move from Ajax to Juventus and he’s played at that level.”

Next week looks a busy one for Chelsea

With the Blues stepping up their recruitment plans, the next week looks a crucial one in Chelsea’s summer.

Boehly has struck an agreement with Leeds to sign their talented winger Raphinha, with talks being held on Wednesday over personal terms.

The Blues are also pursuing Raheem Sterling with Tuchel wanting two wingers signed.

De Ligt to Chelsea could be on the cards

Juventus centre back De Ligt could be looking for a move away from Turin and Chelsea is definitely an option

However, it is the defence which will surely take priority for the club, as they weigh up their options.

There will also be departures too. Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan, on a season’s loan, should go through this week.

Furthermore, the Blues are also likely to offload Hakim Ziyech, with Boehly reportedly striking a £30m deal to sell him to a Serie A giant.
