Borussia Dortmund chiefs will not have reacted well to Thomas Tuchel’s comments about a Chelsea transfer for Erling Haaland, a report has claimed.
The Blues have long been a fan of the Norwegian striker, alongside the likes of Manchester United. For now, he is enjoying his time in the Bundesliga. Indeed, he has 49 goals in 49 games in the German top flight.
However, talk of Haaland’s potential exit next summer is increasing. What’s more, Tuchel recently revealed summer Chelsea talks about a move for him.
Tuchel revealed that his club “talk about him regularly”. However, they decided that a move in the most recent transfer window was unfeasible.
Nevertheless, he insisted that anything could happen in the next few weeks as January approaches.
According to German newspaper Bild – who secured the interview with Tuchel – Dortmund bosses will not have reacted kindly to reading the Chelsea manager’s comments.
The German club reportedly want Haaland to stay until the summer of 2023, but it remains unclear if that will be possible.
The striker has a release clause worth a reported £64million in his contract, which activates next summer. While he would have cost well over £100million this summer, he is more affordable in 2022.
Chelsea suffer double blow in pursuit of new defender
Chelsea have suffered a double blow in pursuit of new defender according to reports, with more news on Mason Mount and Ousmane Dembele.
Bild also claims that Haaland will be asking himself if Dortmund is the best place to be to win silverware. He went there ahead of, for example, Manchester United, to better his development.
But as he consolidates himself as one of the world’s best strikers, results such as Tuesday’s 4-0 loss to Ajax in the Champions League will not give him faith in Dortmund’s long-term ambitions.
Dortmund boss Marco Rose said: “Why shouldn’t a smart boy like Erling develop the feeling, when things are going well, to stay in Dortmund? I definitely see an opportunity.”
Haaland sets out transfer demands
Should Haaland decide to move on next summer, he would not find himself short of suitors.
As well as Chelsea and Man Utd, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have eyes on his signature.
PSG and Madrid’s chase could well depend on what happens with Kylian Mbappe. Currently in the French capital, he admitted recently that he wanted to move to Madrid this summer.
A report has claimed to reveal the sorts of wages Haaland would demand for his next club.
