Chelsea threaten to hijack bargain deal on Liverpool, Man Utd radars with Tuchel signing in serious jeopardy

Chelsea forwards Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Chelsea have emerged as a genuine contender to snatch a Bundesliga ace from Liverpool or Man Utd’s grasp, and his arrival could spell trouble for a recent Blues signing, per reports.

All three clubs’ interest in Borussia Dortmund superstar, Jude Bellingham, is well known. However, today’s update regards the Englishman’s teammate – Youssoufa Moukoko.

Despite not turning 18 until Sunday, Moukoko is already one of German football’s hottest properties.

Moukoko was born in Cameroon but represents Germany at international level. He is yet to debut for the the senior national side, though that may well change in Qatar.

On the back of a remarkable rise this season, Moukoko was named in Hansi Flick’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Moukoko has notched 12 goal contributions in just 22 matches this term – remarkable figures for someone so young.

What’s more, he bagged an eye-catching brace against VFL Bochum on November 5 and also scored in the 2-2 draw with bitter rivals Bayern Munich on October 8.

Moukoko is clearly a star on the rise and Dortmund hope he’ll continue to shine in the black and yellow for years to come. However, his contract situation and the mounting interest point towards Dortmund facing disappointment.

Dortmund vulnerable to Moukoko raid

Moukoko’s current deal expires next summer, something that’s led to rampant talk of a January bidding war.

Given Dortmund’s weak position, a bargain fee of around £25m has been cited as enough to seal a deal – if Dortmund admit defeat.

From the player’s perspective, Moukoko is known to enjoy working with Dortmund boss Edin Terzic. However, once he turns 18 next weekend, he’ll sign with a football agency and Bild speculate he’ll be ushered towards making a move to England.

On that front, Liverpool have been heavily linked, while Man Utd were also namechecked by Bild. From further afield, Barcelona and PSG are believed to like what they see in Moukoko.

Now, the Liverpool Echo sound a pertinent warning to Jurgen Klopp and Erik ten Hag when claiming Chelsea are a threat to hijack any move.

Aubameyang concerns sparking Chelsea interest?

Citing reports in Spain, the Blues have entered the mix amid concerns over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The veteran hitman, 33, was a late window signing, seemingly at the behest of Thomas Tuchel.

However, Tuchel was quickly given the boot and replaced by Graham Potter who has begun to favour Armando Broja of late.

Aubameyang has shown flashes, though a return of three goals in 13 appearances across all competitions is not what Chelsea require from a high profile centre-forward.

Indeed, the Blues tally of 17 league goals scored this term is by far the lowest of all top half teams at present. Brentford and Brighton are next with six goals more each (23).

Spanish outlet Sport also name Man City as a potential Moukoko buyer. Responding to the growing speculation, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has seemingly confirmed the aforementioned clubs are all in the mix.

“More than six or seven” chasing Moukoko

“There are really many clubs monitoring Youssoufa Moukoko, more than six or seven around Europe,” Romano explained (via Caught Offside)

“It’s absolutely normal as he’s a top talent, but Borussia Dortmund are still pushing to extend his contract and trying to find a way.

“The manager Edin Terzic will be a key factor to convince Moukoko.”

If Terzic and Dortmund cannot convince Moukoko to stay, a bidding war in January could be on the cards.

Football Espana claim Barcelona are unlikely to win any race due to having to pay a fee and the fact they already have an abundance of forward options at their disposal.

PSG, meanwhile, already have Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi on their books. It remains to be seen whether Moukoko would favour a switch to Paris given the significant hurdles he’ll face with regards to game-time.

As such, a move to one of the Premier League’s big hitters looks increasingly viable.
