Chelsea told they can sign one of famed PSG front three amid ‘end of an era’ claim, but major concern emerges

Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi of PSG

Chelsea have learned one of Paris Saint-Germain’s best players will likely depart the club this summer, amid rumours of a move to Stamford Bridge, although one concern means Graham Potter should proceed with caution.

PSG crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16 yet again as they were beaten 3-0 over two legs by Bayern Munich. Despite having world-class players such as Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Achraf Hakimi in the starting eleven for the second leg – Neymar is out injured – the Ligue 1 side failed to score a goal.

Jamie Carragher reacted to the result by urging Mbappe to move on. This will have come as a major boost to Manchester United, who are hoping to capture the goalscorer. Although, Carragher believes Real Madrid will provide Man Utd with competition for him.

Mbappe is not the only PSG ace who might leave at the end of the season. Neymar’s future is also in doubt following a major injury setback.

The Brazilian forward requires surgery after suffering ankle ligament damage during the recent 4-3 victory over Lille. He will be out for the rest of the campaign.

PSG will likely be growing tired of the problems surrounding Neymar. He has a tendency to pick up injuries and can be inconsistent at times, despite his incredible ability.

Chelsea will be one of the main suitors if PSG put Neymar up for sale. And South American football expert Tim Vickery believes the ‘end of an era’ is coming at the Parc des Princes, with Neymar set for a transfer elsewhere.

“It is worrying, isn’t it? I am concerned for his future,” Vickery said during an appearance on talkSPORT. “You kind of expect the end of an era at PSG.

PSG set for ‘end of an era’ and Chelsea could capitalise

“The end of the Mbappe, Messi and Neymar era, where Neymar kind of got overtaken by Mbappe in the whole project.

“It hasn’t really worked out for him anyway and with these recurrent ankle injuries, you wonder what his future is.”

Vickery then discussed rumours the 31-year-old might head to Chelsea. He told Blues boss Graham Potter to be cautious due to Neymar’s injury problems.

“There has been a lot of talk of him perhaps moving to the Premier League with Chelsea,” he added.

“Is anyone really going to pay big money for him with his injury record? Especially in a league as physically intense as the Premier League.

“So I am a little bit worried about what the future holds for him.”

Neymar had enjoyed a great season before his injury, registering 18 goals and 17 assists in 29 appearances. His goal contributions have helped PSG extend an eight-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

But Neymar has sometimes been criticised for not being there when PSG need him in the biggest games. And this was the case once again versus Bayern.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly would love to land Neymar. It would bring plenty of media interest and financial rewards to the club.

However, he would not want to spend anywhere near the £200m fee PSG parted with to capture Neymar back in August 2017.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has discussed the future of a striker wanted by Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham.
