Chelsea man appears on Inter Milan radar, with Tuchel aiming to bring in big-money replacement

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi comes on for Trevoh Chalobah

Inter Milan have emerged as a potential suitor for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, who is set to leave Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis this month.

Chalobah is a product of the Chelsea academy. He had loan spells at Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient before making it into the Chelsea first team last season.

Chalobah made his Blues debut in the UEFA Super Cup win against Villarreal, which went to penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra time.

And the centre-back featured in his first ever Premier League game on August 14 2021. He got on the scoresheet and helped Chelsea keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory over fellow London club Crystal Palace.

Chalobah clearly impressed manager Thomas Tuchel, as he went on to play in 30 matches across all competitions last term.

The Englishman, who is also eligible to represent Sierra Leone, is yet to feature this campaign though. Instead, Tuchel has gone with a back three consisting of Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva and either Reece James or Cesar Azpilicueta.

Chalobah could play for the first time this season when Chelsea travel to Leeds on Sunday at 14:00. More likely, though, he will spend the rest of the year on loan away from Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel wants Chelsea to bring in Wesley Fofana from Leicester City. And the west London outfit could end up making him the most expensive defender in world football. As per French outlet Media Foot, they are willing to pay £84.5m on the Foxes star.

Plus, Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Fofana as he wants to leave the King Power to take the next step in his career.

Trevoh Chalobah to spend a season away from Chelsea

If Fofana arrives, then Chalobah will fall further down the pecking order. As a result, Chelsea are happy for him to pick up senior experience through a loan this term, according to The Athletic.

They state several teams in the Premier League and in Serie A would like to sign Chalobah, 23.

The report didn’t mention any specific clubs. But now Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have gone one further by revealing Inter Milan want Chalobah.

The Sun pick up the story and claim Inter have made an approach for him. As such, Inter and Chelsea will now be in talks over a loan switch.

They will have to agree on how much of his weekly wage Inter will pay, as well as a potential buy option. Presumably, Chelsea want it just to be a straight loan as they have high hopes for Chalobah for the future.

This would be a great move for the young defender. Fikayo Tomori left Chelsea for AC Milan in July 2021 and has done exceptionally well there.

Plus, the Rossoneri fans have welcomed Tomori with open arms. Admittedly, Chalobah might not receive the same welcome due to his move only being a loan.

Nevertheless, Serie A seems to be a good location for players such as Chalobah to pick up more experience and learn their trade.

Meanwhile, West Ham are back in for a Chelsea full-back after previously moving onto other targets.
