Tuchel sends warning over Chelsea hero after hailing ruthless streak in seven-goal rout

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitted that he’s had to be careful with Mason Mount’s fitness after the Blues midfielder bagged a hat-trick in a 7-0 rout of Norwich on Saturday.

Mount scored three times as the Blues handed the hapless 10-man Canaries a homegrown hammering to cement top spot in the Premier League. Chelsea youth products Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James set the tone with first-half goals as the Blues ran riot at Stamford Bridge.

England left-back Ben Chilwell then drilled in his fourth goal in five games for club and country, Max Aarons put through his own net and the Canaries had Ben Gibson sent off for two yellow cards.

Mount converted an 85th-minute penalty at the second attempt, failing with his first effort only to be reprieved by Tim Krul moving prematurely off his line.

And right at the last, England star Mount tapped home from Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s cross to walk off the field with the match ball.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel told BT Sport: “We had a good performance and put in a lot of effort with high pressing and many ball wins and created a lot of chances and were very precise today with the finishing.

“We needed luck and momentum also but it was a very good game.

Chelsea willing to pay asking price for Real Madrid's Ferland Mendy

Chelsea willing to pay asking price for Real Madrid's Ferland Mendy

Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay the asking price Real Madrid want for full back Ferland Mendy, with more news on Thomas Tuchel and Marcelo Brozovic.

“But it is only one game. Fair enough you get all the credit, but it is one game and we are back here again on Tuesday trying again.”

On Mount, Tuchel said: “No matter what the coach says and how many opportunities you have, the offensive guys need goals to feel happy and confident and he waited too long and it is good he got goals today.

“It is not a matter of now he is fresh and yesterday he was tired, we are in a process and it is normal. I agree today he looked fresh again but we need to be careful with these players who play an important role in national teams and who have a lot of competitions.

“Sometimes it is normal that you feel more fatigued if you don’t have a break from internationals.”

Mount hails ‘special’ moment

Meanwhile, hat-trick hero Mount admitted he was looking to add more goals to his game: “I put pressure on myself before the game to get goals as it’s been a long time and I think this is the first time I’ve ever got more than one goal in a game for Chelsea.

“It’s a big moment for me personally to score three at home at Stamford Bridge, it’s very special.

“You get into positions to score and I was thinking there would be a game where it all comes together – and that was today.

“It was my luck today (with the penalty retake) but not just for me, for the team as well.

“We were at it from the beginning and on it throughout the whole game. Even being a couple up going into the second half we never dropped our standards.”
