Chelsea transfers: €35m striker heading to west London for medical as Tottenham interest swept aside

Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson

Chelsea are on track to beat out interest from London rivals Tottenham to sign Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson, with a medical expected to take place this week.

The forward scored 13 goals and added five assists in 38 games for the LaLiga side last season but failed to make a proposed move to Bournemouth in the January transfer window due to a hamstring injury.

Most of his goals came in the second half of the campaign and that clearly sparked interest from Stamford Bridge bosses.

Jackson currently has a release clause of €35million and AS reports that Chelsea have already agreed to pay that figure.

However, the transfer was thrown into doubt when reports over the weekend emerged that Spurs were also chasing the Senegal international.

But it looks like Mauricio Pochettino is ready to see off that interest from his old club and win the race to sign Jackson.

The report adds that personal terms are still to be agreed with the 21-year-old, although that is expected to be finalised in a ‘matter of hours’.

Jackson bound for Stamford Bridge

Jackson is now expected to travel to London this week to undergo medical tests and is then expected to sign a contract for five or six years.

The arrival of the Villarreal star will fill Chelsea’s need for a new No.9 in what is expected to be a busy summer of ins and outs at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, two Blues stars are thought to be closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia.
