‘Yeah, good’: Tuchel has no issue with Chelsea star’s ‘revenge’ call ahead of Liverpool face-off

Thomas Tuchel has backed Mason Mount over comments he made that Chelsea want payback against Liverpool in next month’s FA Cup final.

The Blues will do battle with Jurgen Klopp’s side in the final of the prestigious competition at Wembley on Saturday, May 14. It is the west Londoners’ last chance to get their hands on silverware in 2021-2022. They were eliminated from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage after an epic battle with Real Madrid.

And Liverpool edged them in the Carabao Cup final – winning 11-10 in a penalty shootout after the match ended goalless. The Premier League is a straight tussle between the Reds and Manchester City.

The Anfield outfit are top of the standings, two points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side. However, that could all change as the Citizens play Brighton on Wednesday evening.

Chelsea sit third after a solid league campaign and are in line to qualify for next season’s Champions League. But it is a trophy they crave.

And, after losing out on five occasions in Wembley finals, Mount pulled no punches on his motivation for May’s showdown.

“It’s definitely time for us to win a final at Wembley,” he said. “For me it is five finals, so we have to put the pressure on us to step up.

“We remember those defeats and now it is time to get payback.”

Tuchel happy with Mount remarks

Tuchel has tasted success with the Stamford Bridge outfit, beating Manchester City in the final to claim last season’s Champions League.

It was thought he had the squad to challenge for the league title this term. It has not worked out that way, with the top two seemingly in a class of their own.

However, winning the world’s oldest domestic competition would certainly help to soften the blow.

Chelsea will be up for it and, asked about Mount’s comments, Tuchel said: “Good. Yeah, good. Of course we feel it [the need to get revenge].

“The Carabao Cup final was so close; it wasn’t last season or two years ago. It was a few weeks ago we lost in the same stadium on a pretty similar occasion.

“Now it is an even bigger cup. Of course, it’s a traditional cup, it has these similarities and of course, it seems like you can come back.

“That’s what it’s about in sports: if you lost against a team on such short notice it feels a bit like, ‘come on, let’s turn things around quickly’.

“If you call it revenge or something else, it doesn’t matter. But we all have this competitive feeling. That’s clear.”

One man who was unhappy with Mount’s words was former Red Jose Enrique, who took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the midfielder.
