Crystal Palace ‘very interested’ in Serie A star being tracked by Fiorentina

Crystal Palace remain interested in a summer target of theirs, Borja Mayoral, with competition for his signature likely from Fiorentina.

Palace were interested in Mayoral in the summer, but Roma manager Jose Mourinho wanted him to remain at the club. However, the signing of Tammy Abraham has meant that Mayoral has not featured all too often this season.

Indeed, Mayoral had an impressive season for Roma last campaign. The Spaniard scored 10 goals and assisted five in 31 Serie A games, almost a goal contribution every other game.

As such, Mayoral seems a decent talent, and Palace’s interest makes sense. Indeed, his fringe role at Roma means he could well be moved on by parent club Real Madrid.

That move could well be to Palace, despite interest from Fiorentina also reported. Indeed, Palace are still ‘very interested’ in signing Mayoral.

A report, via Sport Witness, claims that the situation in Fiorentina’s interest ‘seems to be different’ to Palace’s. Indeed, Real seemed unimpressed by Fiorentina’s apparent approach.

What’s more, Real have opened a ‘concrete conversation’ with Palace regarding a deal for Mayoral.

That deal is said to be around €15million, and looks as if it could be ‘immediate’.

Indeed, Palace could use a prolific striker to add to their squad. The Eagles top goalscorer this season is Conor Gallagher, a midfielder, who has outscored Christian Benteke, having played fewer games.

Mayoral has scored goals in Spain, Italy and Germany, so he should be able to adapt to playing in England. What’s more, Palace will hope he is as prolific as he was for Roma last season, when he scored 17 goals, including seven in European competition.

Mayoral may replace Palace forward

Jean-Philippe Mateta

Palace have an abundance of strikers in their squad. Indeed, Benteke and Jordan Ayew are the most regular features in the side.

That means that loanee Jean-Philippe Mateta is not afforded many opportunities at all. In fact, he has played just twice under Patrick Vieira in the league this season.

Indeed, a move to another side looks likely, since his parent club Mainz do not want to recall him from his loan at Palace.

However, a proposed move to Saint-Etienne revealed a problem, in the from of Mateta’s £40,000-per-week wage.

As such, the French strugglers were not able to bring him in. Furthermore, he may have to sit out the rest of his loan at Palace, before returning to Mainz in the summer.
