Crystal Palace hatch ambitious plan to sign former Everton man; the attacker is shining in the Serie A

Ademola-Lookman-Atalanta

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman this summer, according to reports.

The 25-year-old, who had spells at Everton, Leicester and Fulham, has been in tremendous form in Serie A this season.

Indeed, it seems Lookman has finally reached his potential at Atalanta, which has caught the attention of several European clubs.

This season, the Nigeria international has scored 13 goals in 28 league appearances, along with making five assists. This gives him an impressive average of 0.64 goal contributions per game.

Now, according to 90Min, Crystal Palace have an ‘interest’ in Lookman. Also, the Eagles could be rivalled by Burnley this summer, who will be competing in the Premier League next season.

Interestingly, Lookman might not be the only Atalanta star heading to England this summer.

As noted by TEAMtalk, centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly on the radar of Manchester United and Chelsea, for example.

Along with Hojlund, centre-back Giorgio Scalvini is being targeted by Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp allegedly sees the 19-year-old as a replacement for Joel Matip, whose form has been inconsistent this season.

Lookman could reignite his PL career with Palace

While Lookman has been excellent in the Serie A, he never really lived up to his potential when playing in the Premier League.

After joining Everton from Charlton Athletic as a 19-year-old, he made 48 appearances across all competitions – scoring just four goals in that time.

This was despite the youngster getting off to an unbelievable start – scoring against Manchester City on his debut.

Lookman was eventually sold to RB Leipzig in 2019, before Fulham gave him a second chance in the Premier League, brining him in on loan a year later.

However, the attacker once again struggled for form, netting just four times in 35 outings.

Finally, Leicester brought Lookman in on another loan deal in 2021, before signing him permanently after a somewhat successful season.

For the Foxes, Lookman scored eight in 45 appearances – his best return for a Premier League club to date.

With that in mind, it could be a risk for Lookman to head back to England, given he is so much more prolific in the Serie A.

Nevertheless, Crystal Palace have reportedly stepped up their interest in the winger, so we could see him make his return next season.

Lookman’s current deal at Atalanta is valid until 2026. Also, given his current form, the Italian club are unlikely to let him go cheaply.

According to TransfermarktAtalanta value him at approximately £30m. So, Palace may have to table an offer in that region to have a chance of getting a deal done.
