EXCLUSIVE: Palace turn down loan offers for youngster after Patrick Vieira call

Jack Wells-Morrison, Crystal Palace midfielder after pre-season friendly v Ipswich Town

Crystal Palace have rejected a host of loan offers for highly-rated youngster Jack Wells-Morrison, TEAMtalk understands.

The 17-year-old midfielder is one of the stars of Palace’s academy, with many at Selhurst Park expecting big things. That was highlighted by the fact he was named on the bench for their FA Cup clash at Millwall over the weekend.

His form for their Under-23s though has not gone unnoticed. As such, we understand a number of Championship and League One clubs have approached Palace about a move this month.

Indeed, we can report that neighbouring Charlton Athletic are among those keen on Wells-Morrison.

However, it is our understanding that Patrick Vieira has no intention of letting him go. That’s with the forward-thinking Eagles boss promoting Wells-Morrison into the first-team squad.

The midfielder will now continue to train with Palace and will hope to maintain his place in the matchday squad.

Capped at England U18 level, Wells-Morrison has been on Palace’s books since the age of six. Both he and his family are season ticket holders at Selhurst Park.

Jack Wells-Morrison stays as Mateta nears exit

Palace, meanwhile, look increasingly likely to allow Jean-Philippe Mateta depart this month.

We reported last week how a deal to take the striker to Saint-Etienne was gathering pace.

Now the London Standard reports the deal is inching closer with all parties near to an agreement.

And asked about a possible transfer last week, Greens boss Pascal Dupraz reported: “….But what I can tell you, is that we have him on the phone regularly.

“There are rules to be observed, and it is still inappropriate to say that he will join us, but there is a will, and it is unanimous.”

Mateta has scored twice in 13 appearances for the Eagles.

However, Vieira has no plans to make his stay permanent and is ready to pass up Palace’s £13.4m option to sign the striker.
