Crystal Palace transfer news: Malcolm Ebiowei deal done, with Vieira tempted by impressive Derby rise

Crystal Palace have confirmed the arrival of winger Malcolm Ebiowei from Derby County, with the 18-year-old delighted at his new five-year deal.

Palace enjoyed their first season under manager Patrick Vieira last term, the Frenchman leading the club into a new era. Following a 12th-placed Premier League finish, the Eagles are looking to take the next step.

And they have made an exciting nod towards the future with the arrival of Ebiowei from the Rams.

The teenager has capped off an impressive six months for the struggling League One side with the summer transfer.

Speaking to his new club’s official website, Ebiowei revealed he hopes to stamp his mark at Palace in his debut season.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Derby County for their incredible support over the last year or so, and for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do on the field, and I’d also like to thank the fans for their encouragement especially given the circumstances of last season,” the winger said.

“As everyone is aware the situation is very uncertain at Derby, so it was important for me to secure my long-term future.”

“I’m incredibly excited about the prospect of joining Palace, as they have an incredible squad and huge potential.

“I very much hope to contribute positively to the team this season.”

Ebiowei to Palace caps off strong rise

The attacker moved to Derby from Rangers in the summer of 2021 but had to bide his time to make his mark.

After making the bench two Championship games in a row from January into February, though, Ebiowei did not look back.

Indeed, he finished the season with one goal and two assists in 16 Championship outings. Alongside his first-team minutes, the winger continued to star in the Under-18s Premier League.

Palace chairman Steve Parish added that he feels “delighted” at Ebiowei’s arrival.

Parish labelled the winger a “highly-coveted young player” who his club hope can “flourish at the highest level”.

Previous reports had detailed how Manchester United were keen on Ebiowei but accepted they were going to lose out to Palace.

Youngster follows well-trodden path

Ebiowei’s move from the Championship to the Premier League is a well-trodden pathway.

Earlier this summer, Liverpool plucked midfielder Fabio Carvalho from Fulham, who earned promotion back to the top flight.

And while Derby have fallen into League One amid continued uncertainty over the future of the whole club, the interest from Palace shows the belief in Ebiowei.

It remains unclear what level of game time the winger can expect in his debut season at Selhurst Park.

However, Vieira clearly feels the player will add something to his Palace team in the future.
