New suitors move ahead of Everton, Nottingham Forest in race for Morgan Gibbs-White

Morgan Gibbs-White England U21 June 2022

Crystal Palace are leading the race to sign highly-rated Wolves attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, claims a report.

Gibbs-White has appeared on the radar of a number of clubs after an impressive loan stint at Sheffield United. Gibbs-White and the Blades fell just short of promotion to the Premier League, but his stats were impressive last season.

The 22-year-old shone in both play-off games against Forest with a goal and assist. That took his season’s tally to 13 goals and 10 assists from 40 games with the Blades.

Gibbs-White, who has seven England Under-21 caps, has got two years remaining on his Molineux deal and he returned to pre-season with the club on Monday.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage wants to keep the player, but so far Gibbs-White has refused to sign a new deal. He is also thought to be reluctant to extend his time under Lage due to a lack of game time.

Gibbs-White returned from his Swansea loan in January 2021, but then spent the majority of the second half of the season on the bench.

He had been mentioned as the long-term successor to Joao Moutinho. But the 35-year-old has penned another one-year deal, thus limiting Gibbs-White’s first-team chances.

Morgan Gibbs-White to replace Conor Gallagher

Now, 90min report that Patrick Vieira has leapt to the front of the queue for the player.

Crystal Palace are looking for a replacement for Conor Gallagher. The England man has returned to Chelsea following his loan stint and looks destined for bigger things.

Vieira has given the green light for Palace to push ahead with a move for Gibbs-White, who will cost in excess of £20m. Palace are convinced Gibbs-White is a senior England player in the making, but there is competition for his signature.

TEAMtalk understands Steve Cooper at Nottingham Forest wants the player, who he is familiar with. He managed him for England’s Under-17s and also signed him on loan at Swansea.

Everton are also keen on the Stafford-born star with FootballInsider insisting the Toffees are in the hunt for him.

Everton sporting director Kevin Thelwell was at Wolves when Gibbs-White came through their academy.
