Dundee United youngster Kerr Smith is reportedly nearing a move to Crystal Palace in January, having attracted a lot of Premier League interest.

Smith trained with a number of Premier League sides in 2020, before signing for Dundee United. Indeed, the youngster is clearly seen as a top talent for the future.

Despite being just 17 years old, Smith has already been blooded in the Dundee United first team.

The youngster has played five Scottish Premiership games this term. What’s more, he registered 90 minutes against Scottish giants Celtic.

A report from the Daily Record claims that Crystal Palace are closing in on a deal for Smith.

Smith is seen as a composed defender at such a young age. What’s more, his physical attributes will only grow stronger as he develops.

Palace signed one of their star players, Odsonne Edouard, from the Scottish top flight in the summer. Should Smith have a similar impact, Eagles boss Patrick Vieira will be a very happy man.

The report claims that Palace would likely utilise Smith in the Under-23s to begin with. However, in years to come, he could become a top prospect.

It is also stated that Smith would likely cost around £250,000.

Indeed, for as good a player as Smith is reported to be, that sum seems a fair price, despite his age.

Speaking in November, Dundee United boss Tam Courts raved about Smith, and the likelihood of teams coming after him.

“It’s a pretty unique situation having a 16-year-old playing regularly in your first team and being good enough. When that happens there is always a lot of interest, especially with a defender because of the physical profile,” he said.

“And if someone of his age can handle it, then it’s attractive to clubs because they will think: ‘Where will this boy be in 4 years’ time if he’s already playing at sixteen?’”

Indeed, Palace will hope that if they do land him, he continues to progress into a top player.
