Crystal Palace are trying to sign winger Ismaila Sarr from Watford and potentially another Championship talent, according to reports.
Sarr suffered relegation from the Premier League with Watford for the second time in his career last season. But unlike last time, when he helped them back up from the Championship, he could jump ship now, before the transfer window closes.
He has recently been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Leeds. But now, Crystal Palace are the ones pressing ahead for a deal.
On Tuesday, it was broken by Foot Mercato that Palace are chasing Sarr’s signature. The French source confirmed advanced talks with Leeds, although such a move would hinge on a player leaving Elland Road first.
In the meantime, Palace have entered the picture and are now rushing to win the race to sign him.
It has since been backed up by The Athletic that Palace have been negotiating with Sarr’s representatives for a few weeks. However, they deny the existence of any agreement with club or player – yet.
Palace have bid before for Sarr, seeing an offer rejected two years ago. Now, they are back in for him, although they are yet to make a formal offer this summer.
But plenty of scouting has come before their pursuit of Sarr. They looked at him in 2019, before he joined Watford, and have kept tabs on him since.
Now, with two years remaining on his contract with Watford, who no longer have top-flight status, it could be the time to move.
Another Watford attacker wanted by Newcastle
Watford have already lost one attacker to a Premier League club this summer, after letting Emmanuel Dennis join Nottingham Forest last week.
Sarr could also make a similar step up – and he is not the only one. Several reports are indicating an interest from Newcastle United in Joao Pedro.
Newcastle are ready to increase their offer for Pedro, which Football Insider believe will be worth £25million plus add-ons. It should come closer to Watford’s £30million valuation.
Therefore, there could be something of an evolution in the attack at Vicarage Road before the transfer window closes. The next couple of weeks will be critical as Pedro and Sarr seek the next steps in their careers.
Palace could follow up Ismaila Sarr pursuit with second Championship raid
If Sarr is to join Palace, he may not be the only player they bring in from a Championship club. According to 90min, they are also keen on Bristol City forward, Antoine Semenyo.
They have supposedly held talks over a deal after watching Semenyo over the past year. Despite him only just returning from an injury, the Eagles are ready to make a move for him.
The London-born Ghana international, who is 22 years old, scored eight goals in the Championship last season. Palace’s interest could continue a trend which has seen them lift the likes of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise from second-tier clubs in recent years.
