Scottish giants become latest club interested in Derby man

Lee Buchanan, Kamil Jozwiak and Louie Sibley celebrate their side scoring.

Celtic have joined the race for the signature of Derby defender Lee Buchanan, per a report.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Glasgow side sent scouts to watch the left-back in action. Buchanan has risen through the academy ranks at the Rams and has only missed two Championship games this campaign. The highly-rated defender has been a key part of Wayne Rooney’s squad, since his arrival.

Buchanan has been a key figure this campaign as he’s helped his side go five games unbeaten in the league.

It’s not the first time the 20-year-old has been linked with a move away from Pride Park.

Rivals, Nottingham Forest were rebuffed in their attempts to sign Buchanan in the summer.

At that point, Derby held firm and priced their neighbours out of a move for the Mansfield-born man on two occasions.

However, with the Rams falling into administration, the club might have to sell some of their best assets in January.

Celtic are looking to bolster their options in this position due to their first choice left-back Greg Taylor being sidelined for months.

Because of this, the Derby man is now firmly on their radar heading into the January transfer window.

The pull of European football could be a huge factor in Buchanan’s decision if he was to leave Pride Park.

Businessman announces interest in buying Derby

US businessman Chris Kirchner has expressed his intention to buy the Rams.

The 34-year-old is the founder, owner and chief executive of Slync.io, a global logistics technology provider.

Going into administration in September, Derby were handed a 12-point deduction by the English Football League. Due to this, they sit six points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table.

Kirchner said: “We don’t know each other yet, but we have two things in common: our love for the game of football and our desire to rebuild Derby County back into the proud club everyone deserves.

“My name is Chris Kirchner and I hope to see many of you soon – as this is my official announcement of my intention to work with the administrators to take Derby County Football Club out of administration.

“Derby County is a club with a rich history and one of the best groups of supporters in all of England.”
