Everton handed huge lift as transfer insider claims top star has no intention of leaving

Everton appear to have handed some much-needed good news, with a report suggesting that Anthony Gordon wants to remain with his boyhood club for ‘as long as he possibly can’.

The winger made his debut for the Toffees during the 2019-20 campaign but has really risen to prominence during the current season, becoming a firm fan favourite in the process.

The 21-year-old attacker has made 24 Premier League appearances this season, scoring three goals and adding as many assists.

He is also regarded as one of the few bright sparks in what has been a disastrous season for the club so far.

The Goodison Park outfit are currently 17th in the Premier League table but only three points off the relegation places.

Everton turned to Frank Lampard after sacking Rafa Benitez in January. However, the Toffees have lost six of the 10 games the former Chelsea manager has been in charge of.

That has led to reports that Lampard could be sacked in the summer, even if he keeps the club up.

However, at least there is some positive news regarding Gordon, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Everton unlikely to cash in on Gordon

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the reporter claimed: “From everything that I can gather from speaking to people, he wants to remain at that club for as long as he possibly can.

“And so, I’ll be very surprised if Everton tried to cash in on him. That’s not the route to go down right now.”

The Toffees are next in action on Sunday when they face a huge clash at Europe-chasing West Ham.

Victory over the Hammers could see them create some breathing space over Watford and Burnley below them. The Hornets and Clarets have to face title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City respectively this weekend.
