Everton launch late bid for exciting striker after seeing fellow Prem suitors fail with two attempts

Ben Brereton Diaz, West Brom v Blackburn February 2022

Everton appear to be back in for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz after Fulham saw two offers rejected for the player, according to reports.

Brereton Diaz has been linked with a step up to Premier League level after impressing in the Championship and with the Chilean national team. What’s more, his contract with Blackburn Rovers is due to expire at the end of the current season.

According to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein, Fulham have failed with two attempts to bring the striker to Craven Cottage.

Their first bid went in on Wednesday, before a new attempt on deadline day. However, Blackburn immediately turned down their second bid, eager to keep hold of Brereton Diaz.

But now they face a new threat from a different Premier League side. According to Sky Sports News, Rovers have now received a bid from Everton for their star striker.

Everton have recently added to their attack by signing Neal Maupay from Brighton. There is a feeling that they could be in need of another attacker, though.

Richarlison was sold to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the transfer window. His main strike partner, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, is still encountering injury issues.

With that in mind, they have returned to the table for Brereton Diaz. The former Nottingham Forest prospect has been on their radar for a while.

It comes after another Championship forward, Joao Pedro of Watford, seemed to slip from their grasp. The Hornets are demanding too much for that transfer, supposedly £30million.

Brereton Diaz could be cheaper than Joao Pedro

In contrast, Sky Sports News claims that Brereton Diaz could be gettable for between £15million and £20million, despite Rovers’ reluctance to sell.

Of course, by letting go of their striker at this stage in the transfer window, it would be difficult to find a replacement. But the Championship side are aware that a decent windfall may be too good to turn down – especially for a player who could leave for free in 2023.

Sky Sports News summarises that neither Fulham nor Everton are willing to meet a valuation of £15million or above. However, there is something from the Toffees on the table.

Blackburn have a couple of hours to make up their minds as to whether it is enough for them to let go of the 23-year-old.

Brereton Diaz scored 22 goals in the Championship last season from 37 league appearances. He already has three from seven in the second tier this term so far.

However, it now looks as if he will be adding to them. Sky have just updated that Brereton Diaz is looking likelier to stay at Ewood Park.
