Odds against Everton for Che Adams transfer but club still ‘very keen’ to make it happen

Che Adams, Southampton, August 2022.

Everton are reportedly “very keen” on securing the services of Che Adams, despite difficulties thanks to Financial Fair Play.

Everton have suffered a few setbacks of late, making their quest for Premier League survival a challenge. Indeed, last season’s top goalscorer Richarlison moved to Tottenham.

What’s more, Dominic Calvert-Lewin – who would be the starting striker – will be injured for another few weeks. That has left just one senior striker available in the squad – Salomon Rondon.

However, Frank Lampard has utilised the Venezuelan for just 26 minutes so far this term. Instead, Anthony Gordon has started up top, despite being a winger.

The issues that not having an adept striker has brought have been apparent so far this season.

Everton have lost both of their first two games, having only scored one goal. They currently sit in 18th in the Premier League table.

As such, adding a striker into the mix seems a must for the Toffees, and is something they are trying to do. They have previously had an approach for Southampton’s Adams knocked back, but seem keen on landing him.

“I think it’s difficult because Everton are very keen. But again, they’re battling against Financial Fair Play restrictions,” talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook told GIVEMESPORT.

“I think Southampton just laughed off their proposal to take him on loan with an obligation to buy,” he added.

It remains to be seen whether or not Everton will go back in for the forward.

Che Adams a decent addition for Everton

Adams would be a decent addition, should Everton manage to sign him. Indeed, they are crying out for a striker at the moment, given the injury to Calvert-Lewin.

It does not seem like they can cope without a genuine frontman. With that being said, recruiting anyone that can bag a few goals would be a bonus for them.

Adams’ best Premier League goals tally was nine, in the 2020/21 season, and he also provided five assists during that campaign. As such, he seems to be an ideal option for Everton to pursue.

However, it seems they may be hampered by Financial Fair Play, and if so, they could find themselves in a very tough spot this season.
