Everton step up quest to strengthen key Lampard area by making contact to take Harry Winks from Tottenham

Everton have established contact as they pursue the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks, according to a report.
Winks could be on his way out of Tottenham this summer after their signings of Rodrigo Bentancur in January and Yves Bissouma in June. Already falling down the pecking order, the academy graduate has less of a place in Antonio Conte’s plans.
Last season, Winks started just nine Premier League matches. Therefore, the time may have come for the 26-year-old to finally find the second club of his career.
In that regard, links with Everton have emerged in recent weeks. They already took one midfielder from Spurs in January when they welcomed Dele Alli to Goodison Park. Now, they are taking steps towards laying the carpet out for Winks to follow.
According to Football Insider, Everton have now made contact for the potential signing of Winks. He is one of their top targets and Spurs will not stand in his way if the price is right.
For a deal to happen, Tottenham are looking for a fee in the region of £20m. A sale would be preferable for a player under contract until 2024.
At Everton, Winks would walk into a midfield which is in need of options. They have lost Donny van de Beek after his loan from Manchester United, and Fabian Delph at the end of his contract.
There is also a feeling that Andre Gomes will be allowed to move on. What’s more, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Davies are all entering the final year of their contracts.
Hence, it has become a priority for Frank Lampard to strengthen the position he used to play in himself.
From other sources, there have also been links with the likes of Hamza Choudhury of Leicester City, and Oleksandr Zinchenko of Manchester City. Each of those players, like Winks, has fallen from prominence at their respective clubs somewhat.
Harry Winks deserves new Premier League platform
Winks could be a particularly gettable target, although Everton may be reluctant to pay £20m for a player who has not enjoyed the biggest proportion of gametime over the past couple of seasons.

Harry Winks linked to Sevilla and La Liga switch
Harry Winks is being linked with a move away from Tottenham as Sevilla hope to bring England midfielder to La Liga
Still, he has shown his talent before and deserves a platform elsewhere in the Premier League.
There will always be some sadness about an academy graduate leaving a club, particularly having got this far in their career. But the time for Tottenham to move on from Winks seems to have come.
It could lead to a good opportunity for Everton to take him.
