Everton forge agreement over ‘transfer of the year’, as surprise salary and deal structure both emerge

Everton are close to finding a new home for Dele Alli in what is being described as the ‘transfer of the year’ in Turkish football, per a report.

The 26-year-old joined the Toffees last winter in a deal that could ultimately cost £40m. Tottenham did not receive a fee at the time, though are in line to collect a series of instalments if Alli hits certain appearance targets.

However, after just half a season at Goodison Park in which Alli’s mind boggling struggles continued, his time on Merseyside is drawing near.

Turkish broadcaster, A Spor, recently reported Besiktas are closing in on acquiring the ex-England international.

Besiktas are sizing up a loan with an option to buy, and fresh details on the proposed move have now come to light.

Another Turkish outlet, Sabah, are clearly high on the idea of Alli gracing their league. Indeed, they term his potential arrival the ‘transfer of the year’ for the Turkish Super Lig if it happens.

Via Sport Witness, they state the an agreement has been reached with Everton regarding the loan with an option to buy route.

Besiktas are deemed in the ‘final stage’ of wrapping up the move and a ‘handshake’ agreement will reportedly result in Alli netting a annual salary of €2.25m.

That works out at approximately just £36,500-a-week – a salary far below what Alli would have expected at age 26 when he once had the footballing world at his feet.

If Besiktas do take up the option to buy after the loan period, a three-year deal will be signed.

Adding further fuel to the fire, Alli has reportedly contacted former Spurs teammates Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Gedson Fernandes.

The pair both play for Besiktas and Alli has received positive feedback about moving to Turkey.

Fabrizio Romano subsequently confirmed Everton and Besiktas have an agreement in place over Alli. He added the decision on whether to green light the move now rests with the player.

Alli was heralded as the next great England midfielder after thriving under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

However, for as great as the early years in north London were, the latter years of his career have been a total 180.

For whatever reason, Alli simply cannot rediscover the form he once showed despite only being 26. A fresh start at Everton was eyed to rejuvenate his career, though that clearly hasn’t panned out.

Instead, a move tu Turkey and away from the pressure and spotlight that comes with Premier League football may be just what he needs.

The alternative is remaining at Everton where his already limited minutes aren’t likely to increase.
