Tottenham finally offload midfielder to Everton in permanent deadline-day transfer

Dele Alli celebrates with Sergio Reguilon

Everton have agreed a deal for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Dele Alli, according to a reliable source.

After officially announcing Frank Lampard earlier on Monday, Everton are keen to back their new manager. A loan deal for Donny van de Beek is going through, but Lampard was also keen to add former England man Alli.

It was thought that a permanent deal with Spurs would be hard to push through on deadline day. Everton face restrictions from Financial Fair Play because of the money they have spent recently.

However, Fabrizio Romano says an agreement is in place and the move will happen, subject to a medical.

The transfer will be a permanent deal. With Van de Beek arriving, Everton had no room to manoeuvre regarding another domestic loan.

Premier League clubs can only have two domestic loan players and the Toffees already have Anwar El Ghazi, who was signed by Rafa Benitez.

Merson: Dele Alli lost his way a bit

Alli, 25, has disappeared off the radar at Spurs in recent years and almost left the club last year.

He is believed to be a player much admired by Lampard and after featuring in just six games under manager Antonio Conte, a transfer was expected.

Paul Merson told Sky Sports: “Alli needs to get back to doing what he was best at doing – which is exactly what Frank Lampard was best at doing – making late runs and scoring goals.

“That’s what Lampard sees in him, and he’s going for him. If he can get him doing that, I think he would be the signing of any window.

“He makes great runs, times them right. He’s a good finisher, he’s big, he’s a good athlete – he ticks every box. And he’s just got to get back to that. He’s lost his way a little bit.”

Alli has scored 67 goals in 269 games for Spurs, but he has only made eight Premier League starts this season.
