Double deal on cards with Valencia hitman in focus to join Mohammed Kudus at Everton

Maxi Gomez Valencia August 2022

Everton and Newcastle are fighting to sign want-away Valencia striker Maxi Gomez, according to a report.

The Uruguayan forward looks destined to leave the LaLiga club in the transfer window. Talk of his exit at the Mestalla has been going on for the last six months. And even the departure of coach Jose Bordalas has not halted the speculation.

The Spanish media have insisted that the 26-year-old is set to move on this summer. The South American striker has a contract until the summer of 2024 and Valencia are said to want €12m for him.

Now Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reports “exclusive” news that Gomez wants to leave Valencia. And Borussia Monchengladbach have held talks with the player’s camp.

However, the price tag is too high for the Bundesliga side, leaving the door open for Everton and Newcastle.

The two Premier League clubs are interested in Gomez, along with Fenerbahce.

AS has reported that Valencia are prepared to accept €10m up front for Gomez, with a further €2m in add-ons. That would still put Gomez in the top three most expensive signings ever at Fener.

Talks have been ongoing, but so far no deal has been concluded. And there is definitely an opportunity for Everton or Newcastle to muscle in with an offer.

The 27-cap Uruguay frontman has scored 34 goals in 107 games for Valencia since his €14.5m move from Celta Vigo in 2019. But he struggled for game time last season and only played 16 minutes from the bench in last weekend’s win over Girona.

Maxi Gomez to join Kudus?

Everton boss Frank Lampard remains in the market for a striker after selling Richarlison to Spurs earlier in the summer.

Winger Dwight McNeil has signed from Burnely, but Lampard is chasing more attacking options.

Everton are lining a season-long loan deal for attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus from Ajax.

The Times reporter Paul Joyce reports that the Blues have an agreement with the Eredivisie club to sign the 22-year-old on loan. That deal would also include an option to make the transfer permanent.

The Ghana playmaker is hunting for playing time ahead of the World Cup. Kudus has been unhappy over his bench role under coach Alfred Schreuder, according to Ghanasoccernet. And the source report that Kudus is preparing to travel to Liverpool by Saturday at the latest to seal a loan deal.
