Everton tipped to hand £50m Man Utd flop a lifeline as Sean Dyche looks to bolster key area

Everton are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, but face competition from Newcastle.

The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season. Now, Erik ten Hag is willing to offload him for the right price.

Indeed, the arrivals of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Marcel Sabitzer reduced McTominay’s playing time. Also, if Mason Mount signs for Man Utd this summer, his situation will only get worse.

Overall, he made 24 Premier League appearances this season. But, the vast majority of these saw him come off the bench.

As a result, McTominay is open to joining another Premier League club this summer. Newcastle have registered an interest in the Scotland international, so that remains a potential destination for him.

Eddie Howe is expected to make several additions as he looks to cement the Magpies’ spot in the top four. Indeed, with Howe’s team playing in the Champions League next season, he requires more squad depth.

However, there is no guarantee McTominay would get into Newcastle’s starting XI, either. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sean Longstaff have been key to the Tynesider’s success, so, the midfielder may opt to move elsewhere.

Everton renew Davies contract, join McTominay race

Everton have just endured back-to-back relegation battles and Sean Dyche is tasked with rebuilding the squad this summer.

For instance, the departures of Yerry Mina, Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend have already been confirmed.

Tom Davies was also expected to leave Everton this summer. But, in a shock twist, Dyche is set to offer him a contract extension.

Amadou Onana has attracted the interest of several European clubs, including, ironicially, Man Utd. So Dyche is still expected to bring in at least one new midfielder.

Now, according to the Athletic, Everton has emerged as a possible destination for McTominay.

The midfielder would probably slot straight into Dyche’s starting XI. So, it will be interesting to see if Everton make a concrete move for him,

Man Utd have previously said they would want £50m for McTominay this summer, which would be well beyond the Toffees’ budget. Although, it’s unlikely they would actually get that amount.

Given Man Utd’s interest in Onana, McTominay could potentially be used as a makeweight in a bid for him. Although, Everton are very reluctant to sell the Belgium international.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Everton make a concrete offer for McTominay. Given Newcastle’s interest, though, they will have to move quickly to sign him.
