Former star ‘optimistic’ over Everton return as Toffees soon to iron out last details

Idrissa Gueye, PSG, December 2020

Everton have just a few details left to settle before they complete the signing of Idrissa Gueye, who is ‘optimistic’ about returning.

Everton have made just four permanent signings so far in the summer transfer window. Toffees fans might have expected more, given the side narrowly escaped relegation last season.

They have not gotten off to the best start in the Premier League. Indeed, Frank Lampard’s side sit in the relegation places, having picked up two points from four games.

The recent signing of Neal Maupay should help them to climb the table.

Everton are still plotting more additions before the transfer window closes, too. Former Toffees star Gueye has been tipped for a return to Goodison Park, and the club have been in talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

It seems those talks are close to resulting in a transfer. Goal journalist Marc Mechenoua reports that there are only a few details left to settle before the transfer is completed.

The potential transfer will reportedly see Gueye stay at Everton for two years initially.

The midfielder – who spent three seasons with the club before moving to PSG – is apparently ‘optimistic’ about returning.

He will become Everton’s fifth permanent signing of the summer, should the deal go through.

Everton will hope that bringing the 32-year-old back to the club will help them out of their rough patch.

Gueye a solid addition for Everton

Gueye was a good player during his previous spell at Goodison Park. The midfielder made 108 appearances for the Toffees over three seasons.

During the three seasons he was at the club, Everton never failed to finish in the top half of the table. Indeed, they finished seventh once, and eighth the other two seasons.

Clearly, Gueye had an impact on the side, which led to his £27million move to PSG. He has made 111 appearances for the French giants, and was part of a side that won the Ligue 1 title on two occasions.

He is yet to get onto the pitch this season, though, as PSG have strengthened their midfield. As such, a move back to Everton could be good for both him, and the club.
