Lampard makes ambitious move to bring classy Japanese star to Everton on a bargain fee

Everton remain interested in making a move for Japanese attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada, reports have claimed.

Kamada currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, but his contract is due to expire at the end of the season. As with anyone in his situation, there is a chance that he could be sold in the January transfer window for a cut-price fee.

Everton were busy last January, backing their new manager Lampard with a range of signings after already investing for his predecessor Rafael Benitez.

Currently 12th in the Premier League but with just three wins from their opening 13 games, Everton might be active again when the winter transfer window opens.

They are the joint-lowest scorers outside the current bottom three in the top flight. Therefore, adding more to their attack could be beneficial.

As recently reported by Forbes, Everton like the look of Kamada and could make a move for him. They would be battling the likes of Benfica and some German Bundesliga clubs for his signature.

In fact, Benfica already came forward for him over the summer, when the Japan international wanted to leave Eintracht Frankfurt. The offer was turned down, but remains on the table.

Since then, Eintracht Frankfurt have approached Kamada about extending his contract. However, he is yet to give any kind of indication that he would want to.

Instead, his focus could be on the World Cup, where he could raise his profile further. Kamada already has six goals from 21 caps for Japan.

What’s more, if he does well in Qatar, Eintracht Frankfurt may be able to add to his market value if they opt for a January sale. It is estimated that he currently might be worth just under £20million.

Alternatively, he would be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs like Everton as soon as the New Year commences.

Eintracht Frankfurt have not given up hope of keeping Kamada. That said, they are starting to look for potential successors, according to the report.

Kamada has made 152 appearances for the club, scoring 36 goals and adding 29 assists since his move from Sint-Truiden in 2019.

He has never featured in the Premier League before. But Everton believe the 26-year-old might be able to make an impact for them.

This season, he has scored an impressive 12 goals from 20 appearances, which have also yielded three assists. He has largely operated as a central or attacking midfielder, but can also play on the left wing as he has done on occasion in 2022.

Previous reports have warned he might not be so keen on a move to Merseyside. Hence, Everton will have to work hard to convince him, particularly given their lack of European football.
