Miracle-worker Dyche let down badly by Everton as Bramley Dock project drains Goodison funds

TEAMtalk has been told that despite the lack of any January signings, Sean Dyche remains Everton’s best hope of securing their Premier League status this season.

The Toffees ended a run of 11 games without a win in all competitions as they stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal with a 1-0 victory at Goodison on Saturday thanks to James Tarkowski’s from a Dwight McNeil corner.

The victory moved Dyche’s men up a place in the table, although they remain the relegation spots.

However, the manner of the performance was complete chalk and cheese compared to recent displays under Frank Lampard.

Dyche was only appointed on January 30, leaving just over a day to try and add to his squad.

But despite having some potential options available to them, nothing ended up getting done.

It was hoped they could seal the free transfer addition of Andre Ayew, but the striker ended up at Nottingham Forest instead. Meanwhile, former Real Madrid playmaker Isco remains on the market but there are no signs of anything happening there.

And we can reveal that the lack of funds available to Dyche to improve his squad played a major factor in Everton drawing a blank on incomings.

Our transfer insider Graeme Bailey said: “Everton can’t afford to live with the rest of the Premier League at this point, that is where we are at this point and it is such a sad place for a true giant of English football to find themselves.

“Sean Dyche has finally landed the job he has probably deserved for quite sometime. But he is taking charge of a club who has just gone through the January window as the only side not to spend money.

“Dyche and Everton both wanted a striker, but they just did not have funds to match some of their rivals. And that was despite selling Anthony Gordon to Newcastle in a deal worth £45m.

Lack of January business disastrous for Everton

“Dyche is very much capable of keeping Everton up, but to not back him up with new names is disastrous.

“I understand that Farhad Moshiri is working hard to find investors. And that does mean selling the club if the chance arose.

“Everton have their new stadium to pay for which has drained funds. The Bramley Dock Stadium is due to open in 18 months. But whether it will be christened with Premier League football remains to be seen.

“There was a bid made for Conor Gallagher during the window. But the player had no interest whatsoever in joining – so why make the offer? There was a lot of people in the game wondering about that one.

“A lot of people in the game are worried for Everton and can barely imagine what relegation could spell for them, but they have given themselves their best chance with the arrival of Sean Dyche.”

Dyche has certainly made the mother of all first impressions with how his side performed against Arsenal.

However, the real trick remains bringing that level of performance all the time. Indeed, that will critical to the club’s hopes of pulling away from the bottom three.

Everton’s next game is the small matter of a Merseyside derby at Anfield on Monday February 13.
