Everton initiate talks with Udinese over Rodrigo Becao transfer, as expert updates state of play

Rodrigo Becao captaining Udinese

Everton are wasting no time in trying to reinforce their defence further after opening talks with Udinese for the transfer of Rodrigo Becao, according to a trusted reporter.

On Saturday, Everton announced the signing of James Tarkowski on a free transfer after his Burnley contract expired. He will help reinforce a key area of Frank Lampard’s side. Indeed, only four clubs conceded fewer goals in the 2021-22 Premier League than the Toffees.

With that in mind, they are not stopping there after the arrival of Tarkowski. Another defender on their radar is Udinese star Becao.

Several sources have indicated Everton’s interest in the Brazilian over the past month. Now, they seem to be taking further steps in their pursuit.

According to Sky Sport Italia expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Everton and Udinese are now negotiating about Becao.

There is no sign that an agreement is close, since there is distance between the two parties. However, Everton will be hoping to work towards a positive conclusion.

Only under contract with Udinese for another two seasons, now may be the time for the 26-year-old to try out the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Becao has been in Serie A for the past three seasons, making 102 appearances for Udinese in all competitions.

Rodrigo Becao to add to Everton defensive depth?

If Becao was to join Everton, he would add to their centre-back options. In addition to Tarkowski, they also have Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite.

It will be interesting to see if any make way should another new face arrive. Everton are working hard to ensure they meet financial guidelines in accordance with the Premier League.

Mina is in the final year of his contract, so could be a likely casualty. For other reasons, the likes of Godfrey and Branthwaite have also been tipped to be snapped up by other clubs.

Hence, Lampard will want to ensure he remains well-stocked at the back. A deal for Becao could be interesting to consider if the price is right.
