Everton plotting transfer for ‘unbelievable’ £20million youngster

Brennan Johnson, Allan Campbell, Nottingham Forest v Luton, November 2021

Everton are keen on completing a deal for young Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson, with competition reported from other Premier League sides.

Johnson has established himself as a top Championship talent this season. Indeed, he has five goals and four assists in the league so far.

What’s more, the Welshman is capable of playing in a variety of positions. He has been deployed across the entire midfield, and the forward line, during his career.

As such, it is clear to see why Premier League teams are taking notice. Leeds United’s interest in the 20-year-old was reported last month.

Furthermore, Everton are reported to have made an approach, with Newcastle United and Tottenham also interested, per Daily Mail.

The report states that the fee for Johnson may rise to around £20million.

While the youngster looks a talented player in the Championship, that fee is a hefty one. Especially considering Everton’s lack of budget for transfers due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

What’s more, Johnson is only 20 years old, and a move to the top flight may be premature. However, he was previously branded “unbelievable” by former Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi, per Nottingham Post.

As such, Johnson may well follow in the footsteps of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma. Indeed, both are recent success stories of moving from the Championship to the Premier League.

However, with Everton’s budget as tight as it is, and the risk on the cards, a deal looks unlikely at this stage. Indeed, the Toffees are already splashing a reported £20million on left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Everton will surely continue to track Johnson for the rest of the season, though, as long as he is not snapped up by a Prem side in January.

Nathan Patterson replaces James Tavernier as a substitute

Everton are also interested in a deal for Scottish right-back Nathan Patterson, despite having multiple bids rebuffed.

Everton captain Seamus Coleman recently turned 33. As such, he probably has limited time left playing in the English top flight.

Indeed, Everton could use a right-back to take Coleman’s place. Furthermore, Patterson looks a decent player to take his place.

A deal in the region of £5million looks to be apt for Patterson. With Everton’s transfer issues at present, that is probably a reasonable fee for them.

However, a deal rests on Rangers’ willingness to sell the Scotland international.
