Everton transfer news: Frank Lampard targets swoop for Brennan Johnson to fix his biggest issue

Jack Robinson and Brennan Johnson

Everton are keen on winger Brennan Johnson and will make a move if Nottingham Forest fail to win promotion to the Premier League on Sunday.

Frank Lampard is looking to bolster his attacking options after just escaping the drop to the Championship. Goals were an issue for him with Richarlison topping the charts with just 11 and Johnson is a target. Indeed the Daily Mail say a swoop is on the cards.

However they point out everything will hinge on Sunday. Forest take on Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final and if they win Johnson is likely to stay. The young flyer will be keen to help Forest stay there.

They are his boyhood club after all and reports claim he will be offered a bumper new deal to reflect his standing as a Premier League player.

However should they miss out, the door is open for Everton to swoop in. Forest would no doubt want to keep hold but could struggle if they stay in the Championship. Despite his allegiance to Forest, Johnson would also be tempted to take a step up.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation for Forest this season. He has scored 19 goals and registered nine assists in 52 appearances in all competitions. With figures like that it is no surprise Everton are keen.

Leeds United have also been linked and could resurrect their interest. If Forest stay down and Johnson becomes available the queue of interested clubs is sure to grow.

Forest value the player at £20million and there will be no shortage of clubs willing to pay it.

Brennan Johnson a star of the future

Johnson looks destined to be a star of the future and could thrive even more with Everton. Lampard would be confident of taking his game to another level. And the chance to work with the former Chelsea star would no doubt appeal to Johnson as well.

The winger has earned rave reviews from all quarters. But more importantly he has done his talking on the pitch. Making the step up to the Premier League is always a big one but Lampard will be confident he can do it.

He has nurtured top young players in the past and can do so again here.

Attacking talent is needed. Richarlison was the only player to hit double figures last season. Johnson would not be expected to shoulder all the responsibility. But he could take some of the weight on his way to being a star of the future.

So all eyes will now be on Sunday and Lampard could be a Huddersfield fan for the afternoon.
