Everton are considering their next move, having seen a huge approach for Brazilian forward Joao Pedro rebuffed by Watford.
The 20-year-old forward moved to Vicarage Road in January 2020, moving as a relative unknown from Fluminense. In his time with the Hornets, he has scored 14 goals in 50 appearances, while creating five more. And while not the most prolific, the player has earned himself a big reputation thanks to some eye-catching displays.
The Brazilian was the subject of interest from Newcastle earlier this summer, with the Magpies seeing a £25m bid, with add-ons rejected by Watford.
Newcastle have since bolstered their attack by signing Alexander Isak, the Sweden striker shining on his debut for the Magpies.
And while they will not be making a fresh move, the door had seemingly opened for Everton to try their luck.
Indeed, they reportedly offered the same £25m bid that Newcastle did, though add-ons will have taken the deal closer to £30m.
However, despite raising the stakes, Watford have rejected the Toffees’ approach. Indeed, Rob Edwards’ side have seemingly no interest in letting Joao Pedro leave, with the player vital in their quest to return to the Premier League.
The Toffees are now considering their next move, though it seems unlikely they’ll try again for Joao Pedro.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Watford have no intention of letting the forward leave this late in the window.
Frank Lampard’s side, however, have managed to bolster their attack with Neal Maupay arriving from Brighton.
He was denied a debut against Leeds due to Premier League red tape. Everton earned a 1-1 draw in the game, thanks to Anthony Gordon’s goal.
Gordon has been the subject of speculation linking him with Chelsea. However, the Toffees have stood firm and a final decision on his future has been reached.
Everton may look to Hwang Hee-chan after Joao Pedro failure
Lampard, however, is keen to bring in another new attacker before the window closes. The Toffees are do need more options amid ongoing concerns over Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
As such, Everton are reportedly hoping to persuade Wolves to sell Hwang Hee-chan before the window closes.
The South Korean has been the subject of interest from Leeds over the past few days.
Their efforts to sign him have seemingly failed, however, following talks between the clubs.
Everton, however, still hope they can convince Wolves into his sale, per the Daily Mail.
Wolves reportedly value Hwang at around £20m, having only made his loan move permanent earlier this summer.
The Mail also suggests Everton could look to target Ben Brereton Diaz of Blackburn or Chelsea’s Armando Broja before the window shuts.
