Everton transfer news: Lampard eyes prolific Mohamed Bayo as cut-price Richarlison replacement – but lowly price alerts familar foes

Mohamed Bayo and Cedric Hountondji celebrate a goal during Ligue 1 game v Lyon

Everton are reportedly firmly in the mix to sign Mohamed Bayo, amid news that the prolific marksman can leave Clermont Foot for a tempting asking price this summer.

The Toffees are in the market for a new striker after losing talismanic frontman Richarlison to Tottenham. The Brazilian moved to north London in a deal that could net Everton as much as £60m. However, with finances still tight, signing a replacement may not be easy.

Indeed, Everton are among those reportedly casting admiring glances towards Chelsea forward Armando Broja. The Albanian starred during a loan stint at Southampton last summer and could be on the move again this summer.

However, competition is tough and any deal is likely to cost in the region of £30m.

Instead, Everton could look to sign a cheaper replacement, with reports in France suggesting a cut-price alternative. The player in question is 24-year-old Guinea striker Bayo.

He operates for Clermont Foot, where he scored an impressive 14 goals in 32 games last season. That takes his overall tally to 37 in 80 appearances for his side – just shy of a goal every two appearances.

That form has alerted a string of admirers, with West Ham reportedly on his trail earlier this summer.

However, Foot Mercato claims the Toffees are now firmly in the mix, with Toffees scouts alerting Frank Lampard to his potential availability.

They claim Clermont are powerless to let him leave should an offer arrive between £11.1m and £12m (€13m – €14m). That kind of fee has Lampard licking his lips – though it seems Everton are not the only ones.

Indeed, the article claims Lille, Hertha Berlin, Valencia and Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen. They state Lille have already seen an offer of €10m rejected, so they aren’t that far away from potentially reaching an agreement.

However, Everton’s hopes may yet be ruined by a familar foe with Tottenham also reportedly on the scene. Their scouts are also big admirers of Bayo, with Tottenham also reportedly planning an approach for his services.

Mohamed Bayo could prove good option for Everton

The Toffees look unable to spend big this summer with Lampard having to work with a limited budget. As such, the capture of Bayo might just tick a few boxes for Everton given the lowly fee involved.

Everton, though, will need a replacement for Richarlison, whose goals and presence in attack will be missed. The Brazilian scored 53 goals for the Merseysiders over his four seasons at Goodison. So whoever steps into his shoes will have a big role to fill.

However, Bayo may prove one of those who just may be worth taking a gamble on.

His record in France certainly reads well. Indeed, the 53 career goals in 116 appearances proves he knows his way to goal. And while the Premier League is a tough competition than Ligue 1, the striker also boasts three in 11 games for his country.

For the money involved, he may just be worth taking a punt on if Everton decide to make their move.

The Toffees, meanwhile, face disappointment in the Jesse Lingard hunt with the free-agent midfielder seemingly heading elsewhere.
